Fog vs Atmosphere [LIGHTING FEEDBACK]

I’ve been experimenting with the new atmosphere lighting and I’m thinking about switching out the normal fog, but some key differences that I’ve noticed is that Atmosphere really blends everything together, and normal fog keeps the whole build looking sharper and adds the extra contrast

Fog

Atmosphere

EDIT

Biggest difference between the 2 lighting settings is that Atmosphere is missing all these areas that should be shaded on max graphics

For me, this kind of ruins the appeal of adding this atmosphere to my showcase since I want my build to have these little details

Atmosphere is superior imo, blends things together better as you’ve said, adds actual atmosphere :hidere: and not just blushy grey fog in the background, and ties the entire night-time scene together.

I’d say Atmosphere, it still has the fog-like affect but just adds some extra onto the image. Nice work.

I think that the atmosphere is almost the same thing but just lighter then the fog, the rest is fine :+1:

The fog looks clearer and sharper and I’m liking it better. But since you said there will be rain I would go for atmosphere since it gives a more dreary/rainy affect.

Was this created with Roblox studio?! This is so good! It displays the exact thing you will see in a movie of an alleyway.

I have a question, how do you enable atmosphere in Studio?

Yes this was all made in studio besides a few open source meshes that I re-textured

Insert an object into lighting and when this tab shows up, search atmosphere and your set

Both the fog and atmosphere are amazing. I would go with atmosphere if there going to be rain in this scene. Both ways are stunning though. :+1:

Atmosphere really makes the ally look more real, reminds me of a city during a stormy day. Great work! :+1:

The Game

The overall design of the game is fantastic. It’s well built and it looks like you’re in a ally in some part of the city. It would be pretty cool if I could move my camera around rather than it just be locked in one position, but the concept you have is pretty cool. I never saw my character get stuck in any places or to where I couldn’t even see my character, so that’s pretty good on your end there!

I did find on upon joining the game, the game’s message wasn’t centered and I could see part of the city when I just looked up.

Both look very good! In my opinion, the photo with the atmosphere looks better to me. It almost kind of gives me a Borderlands look and feel without the thick outlines.

I have edited the original post and added a few new screenshots and a poll, also if anyone has good experience with this new lighting please send some atmosphere settings. I’m still experimenting

How did you make the fog lighting by the way?

I’m curious because I’m trying to deliver something similar for one of my projects, with the whole gritty and realistic like feel!

It’s a pretty easy trick to manipulate the legacy fog

By having these parts surround my build ensures that the fog will overlay this backdrop that I’ve created, its pretty primitive but extremely effective

These are my lighting settings if your interested in the gritty/urban nighttime vibe

Thank you! This’ll be extremely helpful!

I’m surprised by the split results from the poll, most likely I’ll leave the fog how it is until I have a better understanding on how the new atmosphere setting works
