Follow feature on Roblox is hidden and neglected

Recently with the new verified badge criteria, I’ve noticed that the follow / follower feature on ROBLOX has been neglected and hidden away.

Some key issues I’ve identified:

  • No support for facilitating follower growth in-game.

  • Little to no incentive to follow a creator beyond messaging and joining them in-game.

  • Follow button is obscure and hidden behind a kebab menu. New users can’t find it!

Edit: As some have commented, this button no longer exists for the in-game player menu.

For developers, It is very important that they are able to create a following and interact with their community in a more engaging way. Additionally, it will help newer developers to meet the new verified badge criteria in a more manageable and realistic process.

It really isn’t that imporant tbh. Followers on roblox are nothing like they are on Facebook and twitter. Following on roblox does basically nothing, while following on social media apps actually has a value.

Tbh I don’t know why they have the follow button. I mean this isn’t a social media site, and it’s not like we are posting daily status updates. Your game has a follow button which should be utilized. Following a developer doesn’t really make sense, as you’re not following a game (on a game platform), but rather following another player. Like it just doesn’t make much sense to me.

I get that roblox could make something like Instagram, twitter, etc. but I just don’t think it would make much sense to follow a developer. There is already a follow option for games.

This was true until the new verified badges guidelines, where followers do count now.

True, but in terms of recieving content, like how you do on Twitter and Facebook, it would make more sense for a following system to be based on games, which roblox currently does. Basing this system on just the developer would cause confusion because they may own multiple games, etc.

ROBLOX is a social networking platform (social media) with games. While following is supported for games themselves, it makes sense to have the same for the creators as well. This is very important for those wanting to make a career on Roblox. (especially now that the verified check-mark criteria involves follower counts).

The point is the followers themselves aren’t getting anything from following the developer besides potentially being able to join and message them, that’s where roblox differs.

A long time ago we used to have profile status updates that friends could see, perhaps a followers revamp could re-introduce this.

i think they should add the thing they used to have a few years ago, on the leaderboard when you click a players name, there was a follow button, now they removed it for some reason, they should bring it back

I would be surprised if they were unaware of the obsolete nature of the follower system on the platform.

Makes me wonder if the UGC qualification of ‘followers’ will be shifted to Guilded, assuring a boost in membership from those who need followers to meet the threshold.

I still remember when you could follow someone directly from the player list

that was eliminated with the New GUI (The one from years ago, not the New New GUI that is being tested)

I hope he comes back, I’m a project assistant and I can’t get the recognition I deserve (?
