When you join a server, footstep sounds start playing from your character before you even move (sometimes)
Footstep sounds don’t stop when you sit down on a seat (sometimes)
If you land after jumping but stop moving, footstep sounds continue (sometimes)
There’s a lot of “sometimes” and I’m sorry I can’t really replicate this on a dime. It just seems to happen a lot in play sessions, and it’s incredibly annoying. I’ll attempt at finding some way to replicate it.
Edit: I should note that this has been happening for a long time now, even before the new footstep sound update.
Here’s a place you can go in to test stuff. There’s an indicator button which puts a little thing above your head you can use to tell what state you’re in. More info can be found next to it.
I’ve experienced the “spawning and infinite footstep noises” thing when I joined the second time. I can’t exactly replicate the footstep glitch in a lot of instances, but it shows the red flashing in some cases where it shouldn’t. (Standing on stairs, standing on the boat)
And every now and then the footsteps continue to play and the thing flashes red even if the person is not moving.
I experience this more consistently on servers with lots of latency/ players online at once, and places with LOTS of parts/ huge maps.
I don’t think they should be local. This doesn’t solve the issue; this will only make you feel more disconnected from what’s happening on screen.
The problem is that footsteps from your OWN character are what become annoying. If you filter everything else out, it doesn’t solve the issue entirely and you’re still left with the big problem.
Also I love being able to hear footsteps from other players. It’s more immersive and you can use it to your advantage to track people down/ hear people approaching you from behind.

I’m talking about playing them locally, so you hear it instantly when your own character does stuff. Currently you have to send the humanoid info to the server and then wait for the sound info to get back, which is pointless and can take a very long time in certain situations.
This can’t happen right now since sounds aren’t whitelisted in FE, but I think character sounds should be whitelisted so that they can be played this way.
