Is it against the rules to make a free game, that gives you say 1 hour of free play,
then after that requires you buy the game for 500 R$, or you have a premium membership while you’re playing?
I think this is a good idea because I’m working on a game, and this would allow people to see what they’re getting before purchase, AND get premium playtime up which is good for possible eventual payouts.
I wouldn’t think this would be against the rules, but who knows?
It isn’t. You can decide what to do with products in your game. I wouldn’t recommend it, but it is not against the rules. As long as your game is appropriate for Roblox. Also, You can read the community Rules (https://en.help.roblox.com/hc/en-us/articles/203313410-Roblox-Community-Rules).
It is not you could make a script then after 1 hour a gui pops up and that you have to pay 500 robux to continue
True, I would just say for him to make a DLC version that you have to pay for.
I would stay away from this, you will probably get a lot of dislikes in the process. A lot of roblox’s playerbase are children, some who may not be able to pay. Also who says you can’t go on an alt?
Didn’t think about dislikes, and not really worried about someone using an alt to get a free hour.
It’s definitely within the rules, however your game would likely get bombed with dislikes. I recommend just using paid access of a slightly lower price (e.g. 100 robux) and demonstrating the game via the thumbnail, description or trailer video. Many games such as bloxburg and my own do this.
@kingerman88 I agree it is probably best just to use payed access whilst trialing A game and although it may let less people through it will reduce dislikes and make people play more consistently supporting the game through release and beyond that.
If you think it is A good idea you can go for it even though the others here and I advise against it as there will be no legal repercussions just maybe some for your games success.
What about no trial, premium only/gamepass only, immediate kick if you don’t have gamepass so you can’t dislike
Or you could make two games, the free trial and the full version
Would not paid access be simpler? Also if they join the game and you use A ban script it still counts as playing to my knowledge meaning you can dislike and like.
Rather than thinking about whether it’s against the rules or not, think about the implications and consequences of doing this and assess whether it’s truly worth doing this.
If I do say so myself, the way you’re thinking about creating a game trial is extremely inefficient and poor. Think about creating a Lite/Demo version of your game over a timed trial. That is, while you give players enough to experience a taste of the game, you lock a number of features that can be available by purchasing the actual game. Therefore, players know what they’d be getting into better.
If you don’t fancy the idea of maintaining both the full game and the lite version, then consider using other mediums to show off your game. The media feature on your game which allows you to post short videos (e.g. trailers/teasers) and different thumbnails can convey what players can expect to be doing when they get into your game as well. That way, players can look at thumbnails or others’ gameplay videos to see if it’s worth actually buying your game.
A reference: Vesteria also had both a full and demo version, the former requiring pay and the latter only showing a certain extent of the game but being completely free. Robux pay features were not enabled AFAIK and there was no limit to how much you could try the demo for.
Thought about using something like this, but because I’m making a game where you can travel to different real maps, 1 trial map to explore and the rest to have to pay for. Some real maps are premium exclusives.
