Hey - it’s Friday again! disclaimer: technically I’m writing this on Saturday at 1:40am - there were technical difficulties…
This is the second part of the private worlds update, so it’s time to introduce something exciting; you can now invite others to your private worlds!
It’s pretty simple - if you’re playing in your own world (that is, you’re the owner), you’ll now see a new button in the pause menu:
Clicking it will open a new invite management screen - from here, you can invite or remove access for any player you’d like! Just type their username in the top, and click ‘Send invite’ or ‘Remove invite’ to add or remove them from your world:
From there, a few things happen to the world lists!
You’ll be able to see everyone who’s invited to the world on your world list:
And they can see your world in the new ‘World invites’ section in the world select screen:
(btw, credit to neep3r for helping out with these screenshots!)
At the bottom of the world invites screen are a few buttons that activate when you select a world you’re invited to:
‘Play world’ will let you jump right into the world and start playing.
‘Add to world list’ will add the selected invite to the main world list, where your other worlds are.
Finally, ‘Ignore invite’ will silently remove the invite from your invite list!
That’s all there is to it - everything else should work fine! Admittedly there are likely still some bugs in the implementation, so make sure to report anything you find!
What else is new this update? Let’s look at the changelog:
Changes
- Added a world invites feature - now, players could invite up to 11 others to private worlds.
- Increased the periodic points reward from 5 points/15 minutes to 10 points/5 minutes.
- Increased the world autosave cooldown from 30s to 60s.
- Fixed a bug where un-sneaking while on the edge of a block could cause you to fall.
- Grass would now decay while underwater.
- Grass would now attempt to spread five times per tick instead of one, improving grass spread rates.
- Sponges no longer absorb lava blocks.
- Added new underwater camera effects - water would now appear more cloudy while the camera was inside water blocks.
- Added a welcome message to public build servers which would appear when first joining.
Bugs
- The player for a loading client would occasionally appear unmoving in the sky before being moved to the correct position.
- The world could still be interacted with through menus and other GUI elements.
- The client and server could sometimes disagree on whether a block was in range of the player when placing or breaking blocks.
