GFX CURRICULUM

Note: You don’t have to complete the tasks in the time frame stated, you can go at any pace you like.

You may replace some of the tasks with something else if you feel it would suit you more.

When it says ‘watch’ the channel name will be stated first and then the video title, simply search that up on youtube.

Make sure to experiment with different styles, also don’t forget, your making GFX not modeling you don’t need to create everything in the scene yourself!

Week 1 & 2: Basics

Watch Blender Guru Donut tutorial series

  • Create something similar( Cupcake,biscuit,Pie etc…)
  • Watch Alexander The Xiitro How to make a gfx from start to finish
  • Create your own simple GFX

Week 3: Lighting

  • Watch Beginners guide to lighting
  • Watch PicklePie lighting tutorial
  • Create 5 different variations of lighting for your model and same for your GFX character

Week 4: Materials

  • Watch Daniel Kraft All 80+ Blender nodes explained in under 30 minutes
  • Watch Blender Guru Understanding Materials
  • Create 5 different backgrounds for your gfx scene, using at least 10 different materials

Week 5: Composition And rendering

  • Watch Blender Guru Understanding Composition
  • Improve your Gfx using Composition and Lighting. Create 5 different variations
  • Watch Blender Guru Optimizing Cycles Rendering

Week 6: Final Project

  • Create a GFX with a theme based around your model
  • Create a completely original GFX using all the skills you have learnt!
  • Watch any videos based on something you are interested in, I would recommend delving into low poly if you haven’t already. A good video to start on is: CG Geek Low Poly Island.

Its a very good schedule for learning GFX. And a lot of other knowledge would come with commissions etc etc. But for every step you make maybe you could also include the things you would learn from them.

Keep doing personal projects and stuff to keep improving yourself. Personal projects should also be used to achieve something like making a fire or water simulation, or to improve your sculpting/building skills.

Maybe you can do a different parth and start animating for example.
