I agree that Roblox was really forceful on this update, and that forcing FE(if they can do that) would be a much better option.
But this change was still for the better.

Yeah this is the most depressing part about this change. R.I.P a lot of my childhood.
I’m going to be a tiny bit controversial and say that’s it’s good that all these games are no longer accessible. They remain a security risk and Roblox is looking at enforcing a standard in terms of security. Non-FE games should remain as only accessible to friends and the owner as they are a security risk and are simply experimental.
Saying that, you said last year in RDC (see here) that it was going to be only under 13, it would be lovely if you mentioned (if you did, my apologies) that you tell us that you are also going to 13+
As someone who looked into the Roblox exploiting community [hi V3rm] (just research into my cybersecurity course), I can tell you for fact that this change has killed a major exploit admin (Infinite Yield), it has killed a major part of the community who wanted to find non-FE games to play around with and may include offensive content.
This change does not stop the major exploits who can simply bypass some of the stuff but you prevent most skids from breaking into stuff and it prevents a lot more than it hurts.
TL;DR. Non-FE games are a security risk, but security first.
EDIT: Someone did suggest that it be single player/only with friends, that sounds fine but you should enforce the standard.
Sad to see so many old games gone. Please add better safety features so we can customize our experience instead of having it be the same for everyone.
It’s not just for nostalgic value that people are upset over this update.
This also completely nullifies games like Place Roulette, which used to teleport you and a group of friends to a completely random game on the platform. It gave you the opportunity to explore somebody’s creation that nobody else has ever seen. Because most of the games are in experimental mode, it will take you forever to just find anything with experimental mode turned off. People put their heart and soul into these places, even if they weren’t the best builder or scripter, and I think losing that part of Roblox would also mean losing what built this company up to begin with.
This topic is similar to how online-only games getting completely wiped from history. Here’s a video by Ross of Accursed Farms which explains much better than I could about why killing games shouldn’t ever be necessary, and I think the same applies to both Roblox games and Roblox itself. Unless the original owner of the place patches the game or makes it uncopylocked, there is currently no way to archive these places. There also aren’t any viable solutions like hosting a Private Server like with other MMOs, such as Star Wars Galaxies or Ragnarok Online.
While the platform wouldn’t lose much in terms of all the Happy Homes or the Empty Baseplates on the platform, there is still so much content on this platform that would become completely unplayable. Please reconsider this update and perhaps implement some of the changes that others have suggested.
That would the best idea but just depends with what Roblox comes back with.
It’s an unfortunate immediate side-effect of the change but when we look into the future where more games are FE enabled by default and scripters learn from the start the importance of FE and proper client-server interaction.
As a result, Little Johny and his friends get a more secure play time and don’t so easily see adult content.
I think Roblox should just force all places to run in non-experimental mode, rather than having this convoluted system of restricting access to certain games. At this point, there’s absolutely no reason why anyone would want their game to be experimental mode anyway.
Not only would this allow old places to be playable again, but this would also solve the problem of numerous games being stuck in experimental mode and being made unplayable because of old places that were made with CreatePlaceAsync (there’s been a lot of confusion in general about games being put in experimental mode when they shouldn’t be).
While it’s beneficial to the company and new players in the long run, I still think Roblox should include a way for us to be able to archive these games.
Some users have suggested single player only.
Seriously, please don’t do this. There are old games that will NEVER be updated to work with filtering for one reason or another but are still incredibly fun to play, and by doing this you are making it so those of us who realistically don’t need to be “protected” (as the case with <13 users) are now blocked from classic/nostalgic/old fun games. While I agree FE should be enabled by default, and non-FE games shouldn’t show up on the games page, I don’t believe you should just completely block people from playing them who want to play them.
What’s your thoughts on the idea shown in post 13? (See above)
Along with your thoughts on the importance of security for Roblox titles, including setting a standard for security?
I like the idea of having it so only friends can join servers with you on “experimental” games. It’s far better than the current solution they’ve now implemented.
Fair enough. Now just seems like a time that Roblox wants to catch up and try and prevent some of the issues presented by some people, although room for improvement is still there.
That would just break many old games (assuming they aren’t completely broken already) so it’s still not a good solution. Best solution would be to just do the single-player or “only friends can join you” idea. No worry of exploiters when you and your friends are the only ones there anyway.
It’s not like y’all actually hop on every week to play these “nostalgic” games, stop complaining about not being able to play them when the last time you actually did was like last year.
Just let old games die, and if you enjoyed playing them, you should try re-creating it if you’re really that eager to get some of your nostalgia back.
I’m mainly concerned about how certain modern games are being forced into experimental mode on accident. There’s basically nobody who seriously plays super old games on the platform anymore, but they should still be available for everyone to examine in some form for historical purposes.
I just really don’t like this system of having to place heavy restrictions on games just because one place in the universe is still experimental mode and/or hasn’t been played yet. Their method of detecting whether a game is experimental mode or not seems to be flawed. I’d rather we just do away with experimental mode altogether.
It’s a shame that that flaw exists and hopefully that is fixed. At least in the mean time, we do have this…
My game is entirely shut down at the moment due to this. But Roblox knew about this problem after the 13+ only version of this FE update, so my question is why didn’t they wait to push the “only friends” part of it until they had this fixed?
