With the recent rollout of displaynames, I think that we’ve become more aware that bad actors will abuse the feature to impersonate users within any type of context regardless of their status. I appreciate that Roblox is doing what it can to prevent impersonation with certain users. However, the current regulations in place may not serve for the overall population of users affected within the community.
I think that DisplayNames should additionally be automatically regulated for all users through:
- Blacklisting phrases accounting for significant social media statuses of users such as “YT” or “TTV” etc from being used on displaynames.
- Blacklisting use of numbers within displaynames. (Numbers might not be as necessary to create a unique displayname and can easily be used to impersonate an original username involving numbers.)
- Checking if a desired displayname is the same as a unique username of an account which has been active within the recent year and preventing use of the same username from an active account.
- Whitelisting common words and names in order to provide availability for displaynames, essentially overriding older common named usernames which may be deemed as unique but in fact just a common word. (Such as “Tree” or “Sea” etc.) for availability.
I’m all ears to further discussion on how Roblox could further sustain preventing impersonation with displaynames.
