Future Lighting Shadows

  • What are you attempting to achieve?
Trying to make the ceiling not be completely dark with future lighting:

  • What is the issue?
I can’t figure out how to make the ceiling have light, I need the ambient lighting to be black still. The light fixture in the image uses a SurfaceLight.

  • What solutions have you tried so far?
I tried making the SurfaceLight 180 degrees, but it’s still pitch dark:

I tried using a pointlight instead, but pointlights have this weird glossy look in Future lighting, even when I use fabric material. I’m not sure what else to try, I haven’t seen something similar on the forum.

That’s because the light is only pointing downwards. One way to fix this is to duplicate the light and have it face upwards as well.

Hmm yeah that’s a good idea, do you think that it would make the server lag more though? There will be hundreds of these lights around the map, although streaming is enabled so that might take some of the load off

Since you’re adding double the lights, It would definitely cause more lag.

The method I gave you is the only way I know since Roblox lighting is a bit primative.

Thats too bad, I’ll look into what I can do to reduce the load. Thanks for offering your help!

instead of using a spot light why not use different all around type of light?

Sorry for the very late reply I’ve been away the past week! What do you mean by a different kind of light? Like pointlight or what?
