Gambling | Where to draw the line & is this allowed?

Hey everyone,
Gambling is a hot-topic recently, and I have a few questions regarding it.
Firstly, it’s pretty broad. Apparently lootboxes are allowed if we designate the percent chance to win, yet apparently having the user buy tokens is not allowed.
So as far as I have read poker, slot-machines, etc are allowed assuming the user cannot buy them with R$.
However, my question lies in the realm of cards (poker).
Can we offer free ways to earn cash to bet with a stipend paid out at the start of each game, and alongside provide purchasable dev-products for extra cash?
Thank you,
-G

As long as the user cannot purchase the currency that is being gambled, and any purchased currency (with robux) cannot be transferred to a currency which can be gambled, you should be fine.

If the purchasable dev-products for extra cash is the same currency that is being gambled or can be transferred to a currency which can be gambled, it is not allowed.

FYI: If you are ever unsure, or the area is grey, never do it.

What if the following schema would be in place:

  • User buys cash
  • User boys lootbox with cash (% chance is displayed)
  • Lootboxes give out different amount of chips which the player can then gamble with

Seems like that would follow their rules to me?

No, that would not be allowed because technically, you are purchasing the chips via Robux (even though it is not directly purchased with Robux, the purchases needed for this item are with Robux).

Essentially, any currency you want in-game that can be gambled with must be 100% earned or given out (as a reward from something not related to Robux).

The only time you would be able to gamble the currency is if there is no downside (Example - User gambles 50 currency, and when the gamble goes through, they earn no less than 50 currency, sort of like The Plaza’s casino.).

If you really want to have a gambling system, I suggest a daily reward in which when a user enters the game once in every 24 hours, they click a button that will give them a random additional number of currency (that is at least +0).

What do you mean w/ your last statement, I’m a little confused.
And as for the Plaza, I thought you could buy PP points or whatever they were called and gamble them? Are you guaranteed to earn more than you spent?

By the last statement, I meant a daily reward that would give out a random amount of currency

And as for The Plazya, you can buy PP (Plaza Points), but in the casino you can “gamble” them to earn more coins. Note that in The Plaza, you do not lose any coins, all you do is click the machine and it will reward you with a random amount of PP.

How is what Phantom Forces does permitted then?
They offer crates which you can purchase via the in-game currency, but if you cannot afford it you can also purchase the in-game currency w/ R$… That is gambling??
Recorded this:

They don’t lose anything from the crates - they are guaranteed a prize. If it were to be a gamble which would cause them to not earn anything or lose their in-game currency, then it would not be allowed, however they give out awards 100% of the time.

But you can sell the skins you receive… Hence you can earn less cash than you spent, meaning that you are taking a chance when purchasing it for R$?
With my stuff, you’d still get a roundly stipend for playing so you never completely “broke”

(I am no professional nor Roblox staff so I am not 100% certain) But because you aren’t gambling them away, you are choosing to sell them, and it tells you that you are selling them, you are not gambling it away.

It’s like Bloxberg - how you can buy things with cash. You aren’t gambling purchasing items such as a house, you are guaranteed the product that you request and guaranteed money back when you sell it. You aren’t gambling whether or not you will earn something or lose something, it just simply just selling the item.

Good point.
With my game though, you can cash in your chips at any time for the equal amount of in-game currency? I struggle to see how this is different than lootboxes

If at any chance, the user is at risk of not earning a benefit when they spend their currency which was purchased (directly or indirectly) with Robux, then it is not allowed.

Direct Purchase - Purchase Currency A with 200 Robux.

Indirect Purchase - Purchase Currency B with Currency A, and Currency A was purchased for 200 Robux.

If in phantom forces, there was any chance that the user would not earn a reward, then it would not be allowed.

Damnit, that is a shame.
Not even if we offer an alternative solution to earn the credits?
