I’ve recently been creating a room in my game where players can fight one another and you can bet on who ever will win. Now I was reading this post about a similar topic Does ROBLOX permit in-game gambling? - #9 by colbert2677 and that gambling with a purchasable currency is not allowed, but then another post, Gambling | Where to draw the line & is this allowed? - #8 by L7_M they state that this is allowed if the user receives a prize 100% of the time. Am I able to allow purchasable currency which is used for other items in the game, yet also used for betting which you will get a beneficial reward 100% of the time?
No, gambling is not allowed.
Even if its not entirely sure, I wouldn’t take the risk.
I’m just slightly confused because in the TOS it says its allowed if the currency is not able to be purchased, but if the player receives the prize + Potentially even more is what im trying to figure out
Depends. “Gambling” is a broad term. Simulators that have egg hatches fall into the “gambling” category. To be able to create these things, you are required to state the chances of getting specified items and if it costs robux, you must win something no matter what.
For your example. I feel like it’s borderline, although more on the safe side. I would change “bet on who will win” to “use cash to vote on who will win”.
Just don’t take the risk. Remember. We’re talking about Roblox Moderation here.
Sorry I probably should have been more specific. When the player lets say pays 200 coins they don’t risk losing it but they have the opportunity to gain more
Betting who will win in a fight with in-game currency should be fine since it’s not robux. If it was robux though I would imagine this would be against the tos
thats understandable but im just confused if its considered gambling with robux if you can pay for the currency
Don’t think it is; look at all the simulator games. As long as there is a way to get the currency without robux then it’s fine
Many games have crates which you can purchase via obtainable and bought currency. I don’t think it’s going to be a problem.
Alright thank you ill probably just add some other means to punish the player for losing idk
basically what you stated yourself is the truth: gambling where you bet isn’t allowed with purchasable currency, but gambling with crates and lootboxes where you can still always get something is allowed.
tl;dr: gambling purchasable currency where you can lose everything and gain nothing is not allowed
It seems to not be allowed if you can purchase it with real money (with robux). Games like Plates Of Fate have gambling machines where you can gain or lose money, but the money isn’t possible to buy with Robux and is only able to be acquired by playing the game.
Regarding the difference in information from my post and the other post: this is because they’re treated as two different scenarios. If there’s an 100% guarantee to win an item then it falls under a different policy that does allow purchase of currency but the exact chances must be disclosed.
I have a more detailed post regarding gambling and the differing policies in the thread below:
I strongly encourage any future readers not to take advice here that just says “many games do it so it’s fine” because if they aren’t in compliance with the rules then you’re adding to the pile of non-compliant games that are liable for moderation action.
