Game concept proposal

I’ve been working on a minigame sort of game for a bit, it has 2D-ish game mechanics. In each minigame you’re in a 2D-style map with a floating character you control by dragging with your mouse.

The minigames I’ve thought of so far are:

  • Racing
    • You race through an obstacle course against other people.
  • Battling
    • You battle it out with power-ups like bombs, arrows, and boomerangs. Every time you hit someone you get a point and the player you hit respawns after 3 seconds.
  • Bombs Away
    • Bombs and fruit fall from the sky. You need to eat (touch) the fruits without hitting the bombs. Hitting a bomb will kill you and you’ll need to wait 3 seconds to respawn. Whoever ate the most fruits wins.
  • Dodgebombs
    • Like dodgeball, only you throw bombs into the other side instead of balls. Everyone on the winning team gets rewared.
  • Boss Mode
    • First minions spawn and everyone needs to work together to defeat them using power-ups. Then when all the minions are gone the boss spawns. If the players manage to defeat the boss before they run out of lives they all get rewarded.
  • Archery
    • Everyone is lined up against one side of the map, they can’t move their character. On the other side, green targets, blue targets, and bombs fly up and down. You need to hit as many flying targets as you can with arrows before the time is up. Green targets give you one points, blue targets give you 2 points, bombs make you lose 3 points.
  • Escape the lava (I’m going to think of a better name for this)
    • Lava starts from the ground and slowly picks up speed as it rises. You need to maneuver around obstacles as you make your way higher away from the lava. Is the lava doesn’t get you when the timer is up, you win.

Although I want to think of a lot more minigames. Let me know if you have any ideas.

I’ve already sort of completed the racing minigame. This is what it looks like.

All the other minigames also look like this, with a floating character that you control by dragging around with your mouse in a 2d-ish map.

I’m thinking there will be 8 people playing a minigame, but let me know if you think it would be better to have there be more or less people.

As for in-game currency, you earn the currency by winning games and levelling up and you buy items like cosmetics and one-time boosts from the shop with it.

And as for monetization, there will be a X2 lives gamepass, a Double Powerups gamepass, where you shoot two power-ups instead of one, and a premium gamepass, which gives you a special skin and twice as much money from winning games.

What should the lobby be like? Will you be your normal character in a 3D lobby or will that be too inconsistent with the minigames themselves which are 2D-ish?

So, do you think this is a good game concept or not?

You should be careful about monetization and make sure your gamepasses do not let others get an advantage.

A premium gamepass is fine but I wouldn’t do the X2 lives gamepass or the double powerups because this can give players an unfair advantage.

I agree with this completely. An alternative for monetization would be having a product rather than a gamepass for an extra life that is offered when you die. This would be less overpowered and would be more appealing to buy.

In all of the minigames that I thought of so far you never actually die and get knocked out of the round, you just die and then respawn a couple of seconds later. The X2 lives gamepass would make it that when you would otherwise be respawned, you would just lose a heart and only respawn when you lose your other heart. You don’t have time to quickly buy the extra life developer product, it would be quicker to just let yourself respawn and go back to your previous position.

Unless you should have to wait like 10 seconds before respawning, but can buy an instant respawn developer product?
