Game covers/icons should be required to contain Roblox content

Recently I noticed this game [FIXED]đŸ¶Secret Life Of Pets TycoonđŸ± - Roblox

Both the cover/game icon are images from the movie. It also has a low like/dislike ratio. Not only does this game use copyrighted images, but it lures users into a poorly made game with no visual representation before visiting.

I’m not saying we remove images made by program like blender who simply render roblox content, but games that rely on clickbait and copyrighted images shouldn’t be allowed.

What’re your guy’s thoughts on this.

If I had a dollar for every thread that says “THEY’RE PLAYING UNFAIR AND WINNING! MAKE IT STOP!” I could buy a nice TV.

I agree with the idea, but they way this is worded sounds like every other thread that points out a game like this. It’ll get removed. They won’t be able to Dev Ex. Just let it die.

On with the idea however, yes. The issue lies in a moderator cannot just assume that a game titled “ROBLOX SUMMER FEST” does not have dinosaurs, robots, flaming apples, and magic unicorns. Therefor this is a near impossibility.

True - but I’m not trying to say that we should remove clickbait images (while that would be nice if it was simple) I’m just saying we should take the first steps and make roblox games require content from the site. And as to the example I stated I’m fairly certain a moderator wouldn’t look at the image and wonder “but what if it does look like that in the game”

My goal is not to end clickbait on roblox in one day, but I feel like this would be a step in the right direction.

A game having a thumbnail/icon that doesn’t contain ROBLOX content doesn’t make it bad. Take @AbstractAlex’s icon for Shard Online for instance:

It doesn’t contain ROBLOX content, but it’s still definitely appropriate. It’s fine if an image doesn’t have ROBLOX stuff, but you’re right that thumbnails/icons/ads shouldn’t be allowed to have clickbait/copyrighted material. It’s difficult to tell if something is copyrighted by glancing at it though, so I think cracking down on images that are obviously meant to imply the gameplay looks different than it does (like screenshots from other games) would be easier to moderate and be just as effective.

Good point, maybe a blanket ban isn’t the solution in the case of games like Shard Online - now all I have is a problem and no solution

No no no no. This is most definitely not a competition thing @J_J. I have absolutely no game to compete with those, and I still strongly dislike them. Why? They’re blatant scams that are free roaming. They tarnish ROBLOX (when people talk poorly about ROBLOX they’re always referring to these types of games) and give players a bad experience. It doesn’t matter if I’m not playing it to have a bad experience – I don’t want players having an awful time on ROBLOX because I want our community to grow. Letting these games run their course will not help, as they are always replaced by a different game that does the same thing.

I mentioned banning stuff like screenshots from other games for game icons/thumbnails – that would help. It wouldn’t help false advertising (people can make an in-ROBLOX scene that makes their game look great but in reality it’s just a bunch of copy/paste free models), but it would help with games that advertise using other games’ success. Really the only solution to bad stuff is manual human moderation of every game. That’s not physically possible due to constraints on time, so the only way to get that to work is for the community to be able to report games and have them locked. We already have that to an extent with Report Abuse, but there are tons of flaws with that and stuff rarely gets acted on unless it’s very severe or involves chat/forum posts.

Just to provide another example, my own game does not have ROBLOX content within the game icon, but is still relevant to the game itself.

Scammy or whatnot games do eventually get removed but in my opinion it always takes too long . If there is a game that has a low like / dislike ratio, it would be nice if within an hour of reaching the front page it could be examined.

The reason I say “examined”:
The issue with automated systems like like/dislike banning is that it is bottable. We do not want to implement a system that can be used maliciously. I typically only see 1-2 games that are clearly clickbait scams every week. I don’t believe a system is needed to prevent this, rather simple checking of the games page every hour or so. From my experience scammy games usually take 5-8+ hours to get moderated.

New users and existing users should not have to see clickbait games because that is a gross experience, especially when a good experience could be put in it’s place.
