Hello, I am currently in the middle of creating a life simulator-like game. When thinking of game development, I was wondering what genres the Roblox lacks a lot. One example would the be Wild West Genre, how there are only one or two games of that category. What other categories are not in Roblox or underrated? I might be thinking of bringing that category up.
have you made a list of what is there now?
I ask as I see that as the starting point.
Once that is available how about doing a web search outside of roblox for game genres and see if the result of that has some not in the list.
Roblox lacks many genres, but there’s also genres with uncountable games.
A game genre that I would like to see that lacks (and that could go along with your life simulator genre) is an open-world singleplayer story game. Or in short terms, GTA.
Of course, that takes a long time to make. Another genre that’s an actual life simulation that lacks is actually… Cooking. I haven’t seen a cooking game the resembles real-life, yet (I think a developer is currently making one of those?). You know, that would be pretty cool. (By the way, this excludes “Cooking Burgers”, as that game lacks certain physics and mechanics. Realism is partially killed in there.)
Some other genres that lacks on the platform may actually be building games? Not with blocks, no Minecraft copy here. I’m speaking about something like “Booga Booga” but better. I don’t know if you get the point, but well.
For the Open Crime genre you mentioned, I feel that they lack a huge, major thing: NPC humans.
Making a realistic cooking game is not possible. For one, you cannot taste what you throw together, which I think is a good thing.
It definitely is possible outside of Roblox if you use a fairly recent research paper published in 2019: A thermomechanical material point method for baking and cooking | ACM Transactions on Graphics which is amazing IMO. But would still require quite a bit of computing power.
Make a horror game, with scary jumpscares.
Personally, I would like to see more pirate-themed games on the platform. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do sound design for, and I’ve even considered putting a team together to make a pirate themed project.
Just a thought.
