However, I’ll leave this bug report open, as I don’t see the point in it, beyond the confusion already caused.
This also happens with the “Download a Copy” option, which is also not available when I’m in a script.
it is pretty questionable, and i completely agree.

Probably for the same reason you can’t access plugins during editing a script. The viewport must be open.
It should also be noted that this applies to the object browser as well (but the object browser is worse; copying something is not possible with it open in the main viewport).
