Game Time Balancing. How many players per team?

I’m thinking of having a time of 5-7 minutes per game, with around 16 players (4 players per team)
However, this may lead to ties as all teams/players may not be defeated (you destroy their spawnpoints to prevent them from spawning, and then pick them off)
So how many players and how much time will be reasonable?
Poll time:

  • 2 players per team (8 players total)
  • 4 players per team (16 players total)

There’s not enough info to give a good vote here; this really depends on how fast-paced your game is.

The best way to figure out the answer to questions like these is just to do playtesting, and adjusting the settings (like round time limit, player count etc) every round based on feedback. Finding 16 testers may be difficult though, so you may want to test with less players during the development process and after you release, get feedback from players and see what they think. If you release it with this method you’ll probably want to put it out as an open beta so it’s obvious that you’re trying to figure out the right balance. (you also should make sure not to set it as paid access if the game won’t be paid after release, because you’ll want as many players as possible so you can get more feedback)

You also might want to consider changing the timer depending on how many players are in the server, but most games afaik don’t do that and it could be unnecessary.

also i voted by accident and now i can’t remove my vote, sorry about that

You can press the ‘Show Vote’ button underneath each poll to try again.
Also, Thanks for your feedback, I’ll bring out playtesting once I get matches working.

Just a reminder:

People will leave if you make the rounds too long. People don’t want to join the game in the middle of the round and have to wait.

So to all the people saying more than 5 minutes, that’s too long realistically. It’ll result not only in player loss but I don’t think people realize how long 5 minutes is. It’s actually quite long for a Roblox game round and that’s not good either.

Some games let you join mid-round, which solves that problem. I know Super Doomspire will throw you into a round immediately if one is currently running in the server you join.
