So i was wandering if it would be a bad idea (in terms of game performance) to make a game with textures only. No colours, and no materials. I’m trying to make a realistic-ish horror game, that has lots of gameplay (Intermission-GameMode-Intermission etc.)
Would it affect gameplay performance in such a way where i would be better off making a game the casual way?
Here’s a picture of what type of realism i’m going for:
On most computers nowadays it wouldn’t affect performance much, as far as I know. however if the game is large and has alot of textures it may increase load/join times depending on how many textures there are. It shouldn’t affect gameplay performance much unless the player has quite a bad system (sub 4gb ram maybe?)
The large majority of players on mobile are quite young, and thus don’t have money to buy higher end devices. This could cause issues, but I think that it should be okay. If it turns out to not be okay, you could maybe reduce texture resolution on mobile devices (If that works, I’m not sure how Roblox works with texture resolution) or stream out any textures that don’t need to be used or aren’t visible.
Judging by the screenshot you sent, it would seem that your game is for more mature audiences, and so less players would have older phones.
No problem. I’m excited to see how your game goes. Another tactic you could use is a graphics option menu in game, which allows players to remove small props or unimportant decorations. Keep up the good work!
Well, I actually like this type of ROBLOX games really much with many textures and realistic type looking, but at many devices it would just lag all the time.
So if you’d publish the game, I would make it PC only.
