Games with large terrain maps can take almost an hour to start

Issue Type: Performance
Impact: High
Frequency: Constantly
Date First Experienced:
Date Last Experienced:

Reproduction Steps:
Import a terrain heightmap at 16384x1024x16384 (this is not that large for an open-world game) and publish the game. Attempting to start a game server via the play button on the website will take over an absurdly long amount of time.

My system information is not really relevant here. Either the Roblox engine or Roblox game servers seem to be the issue since the server simply doesn’t start.

Expected Behavior:
I expect the game server to start in a reasonable amount of time.

Actual Behavior:
This game server takes anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour to start (the longest I’ve observed is 55 minutes).

Workaround: None.

So it isn’t just me! I specialize in these type of large scale terrain maps, everytime I make one, it takes forever to load! Here are a couple to test:

Would love to see this get resolved, would make my clients very happy as well!

That (330) means the client has requested the server for a game instance for it to join 330 times. Absolutely nothing could be done from one’s computer to fix this. The server has failed to create (or is currently in the process of making) a server over 330 requests from the client, of which there’s usually a 5-10 second wait time between.

I’m curious, how big is the file for the place?

Only 20mb for the rbxl. I’d imagine an rbxlx would be a bit larger.
