Get rid of the chat filter in the Talent Hub

Just because you went through this doesn’t mean everyone else should suffer.

It’s not just me. Many female / younger creators have to deal with these sorts of issues. Roblox has continuously advocated for minor safety, and I believe that their extension platforms should reflect the same core values. If you want to use a platform without chat filters, just use Discord. Insinuating that it’s just a “me issue” is ignorant, and I would encourage you to perhaps do some reading on the subject to better understand the risks associated with those kinds of changes.

Sorry you had to go through that, but still, no one else should have to suffer because of you and a couple other people’s experiences

Just because it doesn’t directly impact you, doesn’t mean it’s not a very REAL and serious issue within the community.

Ignorance is bliss.

I’ll agree to disagree.

I’m going to second this. The talent hub is intended to be a platform for professional work where a potentially large amount of money is at stake and where people go to fill essential roles in development.
Maturity is essential in all types of work which (most) children obviously do not possess. Many job positions on the talent hub seem as if they were written by children (and probably are.) Lastly, the Talent Hub is intended as a replacement for #collaboration . The forum is 13+, and the Talent Hub should follow suit.

As much as the issue you’re describing is real, I think that you’re blowing this out of proportion.

I am a female-presenting adult and while I don’t make it my character trait, I do get people trying to bait me into very bad situations. The talent hub in it’s current state could go about without a chat filter and still be safe. The only way to reach people is to post job offers and invite them to it or apply for them yourself but for the first one you need a mod to approve it and for the latter, it’s easy to report the message and the person would get banned for misusing the site in this way.

Same goes for the DevForum (minus the “need mod to approve part”) and it does operate without a filter. What you’re not seeing here and I think Home is trying to say is that we shouldn’t be restricting something that isn’t prone to other things just because of a possibility of something bad happening. It’s good to be cautious but being overly cautious will just kill it for the intended audience, not to mention that the Talent Hub is literally meant to be a “you found someone for the job, now get the hell out of here onto Discord!!” kind of place.

The user you replied to is against Roblox forcing others to use third party platforms, not Roblox restricting others from communicating with off-site platforms as what your post implies.

People often use the argument “anyone allowed to use DevForum should also be allowed to use Discord” while debating this issue, and while this claim is correct in some way regarding the minimum age to use these services, you also need to understand that the Roblox developer base is extremely diverse.

On this website, you can communicate with people from all different parts of the world, which also means you will find people coming from different household environments with different family rules and customs. There are many reasons why a parent would rather let their kid use a heavily moderated development forum with around 100,000 active users a month compared to a much less moderated social platform being more than a thousand times bigger with 140 million monthly active users. Not to mention that Roblox development is extremely educational and really helps kids and teenagers prepare for the real world — parents could allow their child to use DevForum for this reason, while holding back on Discord for safety concerns.

Now back to my statement about the community being diverse, developers willing to hire someone should be prepared to encounter someone who has different family rules and is not permitted to use Discord. I also believe that anyone who is willing to find a job should be prepared by having Discord because it is the communication norm.

Onto the chat filter issue, while I do believe Roblox should definitely loosen up the chat filter on the Talent Hub, Roblox should not force users to use third party platforms as an excuse for not wanting to fix the chat filter. Imagine this fake situation of Twitter trying to target kids and implementing extreme moderation and deleting any post that does not pass its faulty filter, while telling its older user base to use a different platform to post totally appropriate things without it getting incorrectly blocked. Instead of forcing everyone to use Discord, Roblox should fix its chat filter, and recommend Discord for easier and more mature conversation. This benefits everyone, regardless of being able to use Discord or not, and contrary to your reply, it does not ban anyone from using or talking about using off-site platforms.

I will conclude with this: I would certainly recommend Discord for users in the collaboration field, because it makes communication much easier, but if you run into someone who does not have access to Discord, be prepared to use alternatives such as DevForum PMs — it’s just a part of working with people with different household rules.

Totally agree with this. because the Devforum has no chat filter and why should the Talent Hub have one either? and you can add one.

Well spoken. A chat filter isn’t going to keep the talent hub that safe anyway. Roblox has a chat filter yet unspeakable things still happen there
The talent hub isn’t meant for little kids’ use. You can’t burn the whole vineyard just because you might get some sour grapes.

I really wish roblox would get rid of the filter on talent hub you can literally only access talent hub if your 13+ it just feels stupid

It seems as if “Discord” has all bypasses for it have been unblocked on the main site, including the Talent Hub, but you cant say “discord” still. But, still saying a discord TAG, like “Pixlz#1337” is blocked, you have to say “Pixlz 1337”
It’s worse if you have more random numbers, mine is allowed in most cases, but something like “Username 9274” is more likely to be blocked.

(2nd to last: attempted “dizzy cord”, last attempted “discord”)

Yeah totally makes sense like why they have a chat filter and not devforum but yeah to answer you it doesn’t make sense for the chat filter because that could possibly hinder when your applying on talent hub.

if anything talented hub 13+ already

It looks like this screenshot is from the chat on roblox.com and not talent.roblox.com. Are you experiencing the same issue on the TalentHub?

How can I test the filter? All of my apps are closed atm

Seems like people are able to say “discord”, but I dont have open chats to see the chat filter in specific

I have been able to reproduce this with Discord tags on the talent hub, someone sent me a Discord tag when requesting me to apply to their job post and the tag got hashtagged out.

It’s so dumb. I’ve tried to link some of my off-site portfolios and they get tagged out, causing me to be rejected. It’s the most annoying thing ever.

You can say discord, but can’t give the discord username. Doesn’t help that I can’t put it in my profile, without it getting moderated for linking off-site links.

The devforum has been completely fine without any filter. There’s literally no need for one on the talent hub. Either way, U13s shouldn’t be given access to it
