Currently, in the new experience controls, if you are in a voice-enabled experience and you don’t have voice chat enabled on your account, there will be a button in the unibar to quickly enable voice chat, which takes the place of the standard mute/unmute microphone button. This was added fairly recently.
However, the button will also appear in experiences with only camera enabled (not voice). This happens regardless if your account has voice chat enabled or not, but your account still must be eligible for voice.
Because the experience does not support voice chat, the button does not do anything in this case, and therefore serves no purpose being there.
Note: The button does not appear in experiences that have both voice and camera disabled, which is correct behavior. It only appears if at least one communication method is enabled for the experience.
Repro
- Ensure that your account is eligible for voice chat (meaning you are 13+ and phone or ID verified).
- Join a camera-enabled experience that does not support voice chat.
- Observe the “Join Voice Chat” button in the unibar.
This issue happens for me on both desktop and mobile.
Expected behavior
If an experience does not support voice chat, the “Get Voice Chat” button should not appear in the unibar.
