Getting a specific voice effect

Hello all voice actors and SFX artists! I am looking for some help getting my audio to have a more intercom-like sound. One that would sound like an announcement over a speaker in a prison or such.

In Audacity you can just slap a high pass filter along with an equalizer effect set to the preset ā€œwalkie talkieā€ for something like this:

Hello, from previous discussion, it appears you use Audacity. I highly recommend getting Adobe Audition or Ableton (what I use), but for now, I’ll explain how to do this on Audacity. What I recommend to do typically is find or record an audio clip that goes from a low pitch to a high pitch and then back down again. Try out different features with the clip to see what they all do. That’s what I did when I used Audacity and was learning how to edit. Use a high pass filter and and then use equalization effects. The best to use is ā€œtelephoneā€.

If you want it to sound like it is in a large room, add some reverb as well. If it starts getting shriek-y, use the amplify feature and then put it on a negative setting (play around with it until it sounds right for your recording). I would upload what this would sound like, but unfortunately, the upload button isn’t working for me. ĀÆ_(惄)_/ĀÆ

I’d use a vocoder. It’ll take some adjusting to the settings of it. There’s probably some free VST vocoders. If not, I can do it when I get home.
