GFFS: Coach Handbook

How to work with the Coach controls

This page will outline the features you have access to as a Skating Coach, and how to appropriatley use them.

As a teacher/coach, you will notice when joining the Olympic Ice Skating Rink a set of buttons on your screen. It should look like this:

Part 1: Lighting

Music and lighting are central to the experience on the ice. Unlike ranks below you, when you are a coach, everyone can see what you set the lights to.
Be sure not to annoy skaters by strobing these lights, or chanigng them during intermissions.

If you’re holding a mock competition, or a skater is doing a solo, you should change the lights to what the player asks you to.

Part 2: Music

As we saw above, there is a button for ‘MUSIC’ along with 3 smaller buttons.
Clicking the 3 smaller buttons will not do anything unless you already have selected a music track.

To select a song or track, click on the ‘MUSIC’ button.
You can browse through tracks by genre, and you can sample the songs to see if you want to play it. Only you can hear song samples.

When you have a track that you want, or that a skater has asked you to play, click the green tick next to the sample play button. This sends the music to the top bar controls.

Whenever you change the music track, you should click the ‘:rewind:’ button. This brings the music back to the start of the track and double checks the settings.
You can also use this any time you want to re-start a song.

Clicking the ‘:arrow_forward:’ button will play the music. Everyone will be able to hear this.
If a player is practicing a solo, you should wait until they are ready before clicking play.
Clicking the ‘:pause_button:’ button will pause the music.

Part 3: Admin Commands

(The Pink arrow opens the admin panel, the blue arrow opens the sub-menu)

(Server)

(Players)

You don’t need to worry about the ‘Check Ban’ control.
For the Player Menu, you can spectate a player with the ‘View’ and ‘Unview’ controls.
If a player is being disruptive, you can kick them

You cannot kick a regular player not in your class, you should only kick someone if they are intentionally getting in the way of practice, trolling, or bumping into people on purose.
You can be reported to the group for kicking people without reason, so do not use this control unless neccesary.

Part 4: Group Controls

You will be able to use the group shout as a coach. If you abuse or overuse this, you might be demoted. It should only be used when announcing a class. All other times, please use the group chat. It is better to format your group shouts like this example;

“Jazz Skating Class in the Olympic Rink - 3:00 GMT”

Include the theme of your lesson - (Freestyle, classical, Jazz, so on,) and the time, with a time zone. Not all players are in the same area, so remember to include a timezone so players can convert it to their time.

Try your best to be on time. You don’t have to schedule lessons by any amount, do it when it suits you and you know you’ll be avaliable.
