Initially, I thought this would go horribly but — in my opinion — it actually turned out really good. However, to improve, I will need feedback. Don’t be afraid to absolutely tear it into pieces (after all, it is my first time).

Very nice work. Love the laser on the gun, the light on the character looks good. the laser reminds me of one of my GFX’s

First attempt looks decent you could probably experiment into placing other characters in the background or behind the user, whatever approach your going for perhaps try including elements and see what looks best for you.
The use of lighting on the character has a decent quality, you could perhaps duplicate the same lighting source and move it to the right to decrease the large dark areas. After all you could experiment with using other materials or learning how to incorporate characters and different elements and see what the end result brings you.
As it could help you learn new things; otherwise it’s a good start though well done.

Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow! Very nice for your first time! I love the lighting and shading; there’s no way this is your first time!!! LOL
