GIF Game icons when hovered over

As a Roblox developer, it is currently too hard to . . .
Make a game icon very appealing

I know that some game icons are very appealing. My idea is to have a short 5-10 second GIF animation play for game icons when a user hovers their mouse over the icon in question.
The GIF would have to be moderated ofc and a fee for uploading one.

If Roblox is able to address your issue, how would it improve your game and/or your development experience? Please be as specific as possible.

It would give developers the option to make their game icon stand out more and potentially get more clicks.
From a users perspective, seeing short animations on the front page would make them feel more attracted to Roblox and see it as a more professional platform/website, in my opinion.

but hey

just an idea
I mainly am just suggesting some sort of animation when you hover over game icons.

I can see why that would potentially work, but I think it might a) make the games page feel ‘messy’ and b) would be used a lot more for clickbait

Could possibly work if you could upload 2/3 game icons and it just rolled through them kinda like the main thumbnails but not too sure about that either -just my thoughts!

I like the idea, but maybe instead it should just make a gif of the YouTube video that they uploaded instead

Both ideas are neat

ROBLOX is supposed to be cracking down on clickbait, and the gifs will still need to be reviewed, so I don’t see why it should cause an increase in clickbait.

It would definitely allow to get more information out, but would destroy the “continuity” (that’s probably not the right word I’m looking for) of the page as some would be gifs and some would be images. Im more inclined to agree with @jjwood1600 because I feel like that idea wouldn’t exactly make it look too messy, but still be open to getting more info out from a game icon.

This would feel quite gimmicky in my opinion, I’m not sure it’d look good on Roblox.

Hardest pass

I personally am extremely against this.

You don’t want to put a lot of information on a icon. You want it to be simple and straight to the point.

Not to mention, on slower internet connections/lower end rigs, it could slow down the webpage which could make for a lesser user experience.

• Games page would look more messy
• Gif game icons can be misleading
• Gifs take way more attention than still icons
• Games page would load slower
• I can imagine that the prices for Gif icons would be very high, which would make it hard for users to compete with other games.

Gif + Sponsored game = wowzers
