Hello, my issue with asset manager is that we can only diversify objects using categories such as “Meshes”, “Images”, “Audio”, etc. I want to speak for all of us when I say we want some sort of mechanism to sort out assets better using directories similar to how real games use program files.
The benefits of this would come true for big projects that use hundreds or thousands of assets, this will prevent the developers from scrolling endlessly when attempting to find a very specific mesh / image / sound. Using this feature you’d be able to separate these into multiple categories similar to the Explorer.
These benefits do not stop at small games as all games, big or small, can use this feature to better improve their workflow.
Features:
-
Right click on folder to open context-menu to allow you to insert the entire folder contents into workspace instead of needing to scroll to the pits of hell and shift click to select everything.
-
Close / Minimise folder to reduce the scrolling size of the Asset Manager to further improve how you find your assets in a large space.
Current Work Arounds / Problems
- Currently, the only way to cleanly use Asset Manager is to use the asset names, however, these do not solve one of the even bigger problems of scrolling endlessly until you find the right category, then actually find the mesh you want to insert.
I would like to hear your opinions on this feature and what further more should be added / improved. Maybe there is a small posibility the right person reads this and does implement this in a Roblox Studio Update.

This would literally be such a godsend and I’m not sure why it’s not a thing.
Honestly I feel like the asset manager should just be structured like a regular filesystem in general. I really hate how every type of asset is forcefully separated into different categories and it offers little control over asset management.
Instead of having these categories, they should just allow users to freely create folders anywhere so they can organize things themselves, a massive part of workflow is organization, and having to rely on such a strangely barebones system for asset management is just overly frustrating and I hope this is addressed!

I agree, they should provide us with options of how to organize and view our assets for example on MacOS you can add custom tags to files and folders, and we can chose to view it by type, data, name, etc
different view options for different purposes, let use filter, sort and search what we are looking for

This has been on my mind for a while now, something I would LOVE to have is a redone asset manager that lets you do the following:
1 - Group, Universe, and Place-specific assets - self explanatory, would probably be tabs at the top. But when the updated asset privacy comes out it would be nice if assets uploaded here would only be allowed to be used in these contexts unless otherwise set.
2 - Sort out everything how you want it. - Instead of remade folders, it would just be blank, and you make your own categories.
3 - Replacing assets on the fly - this is the big one i need, being able to replace an asset, old one be gone and the new one take its ID and name.
All of this to say, i’d like some sort of system where I can define my own asset ID paths like this: rbxassetid://group/Shields/OE-Expressway/E30
You could update the asset as needed and the path still work.

you can search properties in the explorer by typing “< object property > = < property value >”
like “enabled = true”
works for searching IDs on parts too.
“Explorer”, I’m talking about the Asset Manager, the reason I use the Asset Manager is so that I can store stuff that I can access later without impeeding on Server Load Times or Client Load Times, and the main reason is that I don’t have the IDs constantly so that’s why I need a way for Roblox to give us a solution for these bugs.
I agree. We need a way to search up our game assets and instantly use them instead of wasting time looking for it by scrolling down endlessly. It would save much more time having this feature.
The Asset Manager is officially broken. When are we getting a better asset manager?
