I’m wondering in how to make a decent game. I would like advice on how to make a good game that isnt a copy of something or a bunch of free models.
Step one: Take two or more completely opposite genres.
Step two: Shmush them together into something great.
Step three: Profit.
Try playing some games on Roblox. Then mash two games together and make a spin off version of it. Or you could alternatively make a game off of a show or a fantasy.
Think of games that make YOU happy, that you enjoy playing, that you would actively play everyday. Now make it!
If you’re looking for a list of ideas:
- A game where you travel around space to collect animals and plant species for your space zoo.
- A game where you travel around the map as a merchant, having to buy and sell goods for profit.
- An MMORPG (as long as it has some unique mechanics and a cool art style).
- A city builder where you’re the mayor.
- A roleplaying game in a fun setting (think Medieval, Western, City, etc.)
- A card game if you’re good at scripting.
These are just some ideas, but with proper inspiration from Roblox or other games you can think of ideas that’ll blow everyone away. All of the games I just mentioned came from inspirations such as Red Dead Redemption 2, Cities: Skylines, Grand Theft Auto 5, etc.
Just browse the Steam store or the Roblox homepage, write down ideas that you like, and put those ideas together in a fun and satisfying way!
My steps would be:
- Pick a popular genre that you and a large number of people would like to play.
- Pick a game to have an inspiration for.
- Pick a unique trend/twist that would pretty much alter the concept of your inspiration game.
Examples: Tower of Hell turned obbies into a tower, Difficulty Chart obby games made obbies harder each stage, Retain Tycoon 2 implemented the tycoon purchasing system into a GUI instead of stepping on pads…
