Good Game Title?

Hi, everyone!

I had an idea for a game, and I’m trying to make sure it’s marketable before actually thinking about starting development. The game idea is sort of a throw people out a window simulator. I know it sounds weird, but hear me out. My main inspiration is Yeet A Friend! :santa: - Roblox, and I’d make the game similar to that, just throwing friends out of a window instead of across a field, and with some more features added.

I have a pretty good idea of how to monetize and create thumbnail/icon art; that’ll be easy to come up with. The main thing that’s troubling me is the game title. I want the title to well describe the game, and I also want it to be short enough so that it fits without a “…”

I was considering a name like “Defenstrate Your Friends!” I feel like that’s a very funny name, but only if you know what defenstrate (to throw something/someone out a window) actually means, which I assume most players in my target demographic don’t. I could do something like “Throw Your Friends Out a Window,” but I feel like that’s too long and it won’t fit on the discover page.

So, if anyone has any name suggestions, please let me know. I’m also curious if you have any ideas for gameplay as well, so let me know if you think of anything there. Thank you in advance!

defenstrate your friend would work if you put “throw people out of a window” as a tag in the description

Yeah, I’m not so much worried about search discoverability, but more about CTR… Most players will have no idea what defenestrate means, and might not understand the title and be less likely to click on the game.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Look at games like Apeirophobia and Altitorture to name a couple. They’ve done fine while having names a lot of people won’t know the meaning of.

I guess that’s true. Those are a little different because common prefixes like -phobia and the word “torture” being in Altitorture sort of give a clue. I feel like defenestrate doesn’t really have as much of that. Also, the target audiences for the games you mentioned would be significantly older.

What about “Toss a friend”? It could work

Yeah, I’m looking to specifically mention windows in the title, though. I think I’m going to name it something like “Yeet a Friend Out a Window!” or "Toss a Friend Out a Window!’ That mostly fits on mobile and completely fits on PC, so it should be good.

That’d be nice. Try some Wordplay to get the best fit. :+1:

What kind of word play are you thinking?

“Throw a Friend”

“Throw your Friends”

I would assume that an icon and thumbnail of the throwing action occurring in front of a window is enough to let players know that the game is “throw your friends out of a window” without actually telling them that directly.

You could also expand on the title in the description, ex: “Throw your friends… out of a window is a game where blah blah.”

In fact, I think you would be better off using one of the names I have suggested. The title will be more clickable and readable (opposed to other suggestions here) but the game art and description will keep your concept clear.

I would ask chatgpt for a different name idea. But it surprises me that chatgpt is just as bad at making ideas as coding

Like list down a few words, and try to shuffle them together.

The one word “DEFENESTRATION” could possibly work as a game title

  • Chuck your friends

(and most importantly of all)

  • Rizz your friend out a window

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I think I’ll wait now until I finish the game and get the thumbnail art done, then I’ll look back at this thread to come up with a final name.
