Yes it will work with a tiling window manager. I used grapejuice with awesomeWM, works perfectly.
Question. Does this only let you run roblox studio or both roblox studio and the roblox client. if not will there be any support for the roblox client in the future?
“A lot of people assume that the Roblox game client will work. To be extremely clear, Roblox player does NOT work Only Roblox Studio Works.” - README.md in project files.
I don’t have an answer for your second question.
They have tried in their official Discord server but it’s painful to even try it. We would need a Roblox engineer to help us but no, Roblox sadly won’t care about Linux because the market share isn’t big enough.
And to grow the market share we would need hardware manufacturers to start preinstalling Linux on their devices because normal people don’t boot off of USB sticks, move their data to a different OS and so on.
Another interesting option I found for making Linux installation available for normal people is install.exe. But it hasn’t been updated since 2008. Someone should definitely make an exe file to install Linux, install your apps, and copy your data from Windows.
Roblox Player works on Linux again with grapejuice.
As the post above says, Roblox Player now works! I’ve now updated the main body of the post to reflect that. Grapejuice is still being maintained and is currently getting some overhauls, both internally and visually.
There are still some bugs with the Player, but getting it work work in the first place is a huge milestone!
I want to apologize in advance in case I sound rude
I was just wondering, is grapejuice collecting any kind of data? I am quite new to Linux, and I’m not really comfortable installing stuff yet (I am still in the “be careful with what you download” side of windows). Also, I am running PopOS (20.10 I believe), is it supported?
I’m a complete noob on Linux, so sorry if this is a dumb question
Yes Grapejuice supports Pop! OS, any Linux distro that supports Python and isn’t ancient works.
No, Grapejuice does not collect any data. If I do add data collection in the future though, it will be explicitly opt-in.
Great! I suspected as much as most ubuntu guides has worked flawlessly on Pop! OS
Alright, now that I got my answers, I might give it a spin tomorrow
its vm time very cool roblox on linux
Is ARM64 support planned? I’d really like to run Studio silently on my raspberry pi
Gonna have to run studio first and setup your graphics settings before editing a place, as Raspberry Pi’s can’t handle intensive graphics. I know I have an ARM64 processor on my PC running Windows 11, and Roblox Studio works fine.
@Brinker7 I currently have “hacker” kick message when (about 3 seconds after, although I assume this is just roblox’s Kick() and anti-cheat not reporting back immediately) joining any game:
(Using “Open with Roblox Player” from browser)
Make sure that you are using at least version 6.11 of Wine, that should fix that specific issue.
Nope, this occurs when Roblox notices something unexpected happening on your device, it’s got nothing to do with the devs of that specific game.
I have one question before switching to Linux
Does playing Roblox via Grapejuice is slower performance-wise when compared to playing Roblox in Windows?
I probably should mention that I’m referring to Roblox Player, not Roblox Studio
No. It is way faster, as linux is not full of bloatware and slow built-in apps.
Performance in setups with custom built optimized WINE with DXVK appear to be equal or slightly faster in FPS in comparison to Windows, but this is just anecdotal evidence from a few individuals on the Grapejuice discord. Your results may vary.
