Group Controls no longer treating buttons like links

The group controls panel on the top right of the main group page no longer treats its buttons like links, meaning I can’t middle click on them to open them in a new tab or right click on them to bring up the other ‘new tab’ options.

Happens 100% of the time for me on Chrome, Windows 10. I just now noticed it, I don’t how long it’s been like this. Obviously it’s not a huge problem, just mildly inconvenient.

Why is this being done this way?

Edit: My other wording may have come off a little rude…

There are a lot of instance of this on the site :( For instance, the search dropdown (which also doesn’t pop up when you paste into it)
