Looks like they do use a ParticleEmitter, and after a few seconds they might’ve played another ParticleEmitter that looks as if it’s bursting.
Regarding the result, I think they played a very quick Tween that manipulates a sort of Size property.
They position a part infront of the camera with particle emitters
