Having difficulty with designing and laying out my games map

Hello first time posting here! I am building an open-world style RPG game however I am having difficulty deciding on how to go about designing and sculpting the map and the terrain itself, especially with the layout of said map. I would like some assistance on finding tools or any good advice for how to go about overcoming this issue if possible?

My general ideas with the map is a central city set in a medieval fantasy style where most of the player activity is focused, and an open-world surrounding it with other buildings, monuments e.t.c for players to explore.

You can try looking into many other games and look for inspiration. If you need a specific example, maybe you can take a look at Genshin Impact.

oh yeh, and you should maybe try learning the built in Terrain Editor for building an open-world RPG game.

Hey I’ll check these out these plugins. Is there any good ways to learn the built-in terrain editor? Had a play with it in the past and I couldn’t really grasp it too well

i just look at pictures of mountains or some beautiful landscapes and try to make them using the terrain editor. i started off by making a waterfall scene.

you can also make it out of parts then cover it with the terrain editors materials if you’re struggling.
