Hello, all. My first submission in RBXDev: The Hub

First, this being my first post here, let me introduce myself a little bit. I’ve been a Robloxian since August of 2009. The game has changed a lot since then, and so have I. I’m no longer 13 and new to the Internet, and Roblox is no longer simply a little indie game with great possibilities: it is a GREAT game with EPIC possibilities.

And I do not mean to think too highly of myself, because nobody likes a braggart, but I have high hopes for myself as well.

I am not a stellar builder, though I can cobble things together when required, and I do not really have the money right now to buy Builders Club, but I am a decently good scripter. I know there are many who are better than me, but I can make just about anything I sit down to create, and to me, that’s all it takes to be good: taking an idea and making it happen, even if it’s not the most elegant or efficient way to make it happen.

Alright, enough introduction. On to the hopefully good stuff.

EDIT: It might help a lot if you actually have a link to the game (facepalm) So here you go. Key Bored Industries Games: The Hub - Roblox

I’ve been working on one game since late in 2011, and it has gone through quite a lot of changes since then. When Game Universes came around, suddenly I realized, I was no longer limited to a single game. All I needed was a single place that could link to all the others. And thus was born the Hub.

There is no character in the Hub. Your camera view is locked. Instead of moving about to interact, you click. There are currently just a few interactive items. Let’s start with that phone on the table. The iBlox phone, once it floats up to your face, can be used for two things, currently. Checking game updates, through HTTPService and my website:

Or, checking various game leaderboards, through DataStores:

Of course, this is all cool, but it isn’t really a game. That’s where these game cases come in.

If you select yes, well, I can hardly do the animation justice in still pictures, so I wish I could make a good GIF out of it without taking an hour. Hopefully these three pictures suffice.
EDIT: Thank you, Bayat!

I would continue and describe my game, but that can wait for another post, I think I’ve made this one long enough. Nice to meet all you guys!

Hello, nice to meet you, and welcome to the community.

That is a very long post but it was worth reading it, your game is really interesting!

See you around!

Hi there!

A very long post, indeed, but worth reading. I’ll definitely give it a try when I can.

Have a gif!

Any plans on adding more games to the hub? I’m sure there are a bunch of willing devs on here.

I just tested the game, I like it, but the teleportation does not work I don’t think its from your game because it showed the messages roblox gives for teleporting and all but then it just stays at the ROBLOX close up on the TV, also the Developer Console on the server side it keeps saying “Turning Off!” … “Turning On!”

Edit: I also like where Chaotic is going about his idea.

The wonderful thing about the Hub is, all I have to do is draw up the video game case and I can link any game through it, like my friend’s Chuck E. Cheese game (which he has since made paid access only and so I should probably replace. EDIT: That’s probably why it didn’t work for you, Omar. RRR is the only game that would play right now.) So if anyone else wants to either:

  1. (the likely option) Have their existing game linked into the Hub, but not be able to access or share stats from it; or

  2. (the unlikely option) Have a new game built into the Hub, and share stats with it and any other built-in games, but at the cost of having it on my account and not making any virtual money from it directly;

then I would be more than glad to listen.

And Bayat, that is completely awesome, that GIF. I know how to make things like that, but I don’t have the patience… or framerate.

Just a heads up, if the teleport fails, they will get stuck, staring at the screen.

Personally I don’t like the Interface. Work on your color shemes, and don’t use those ugly dialogs… Other then that great game

Ps. Welcome to RbxDev !

I have updated, removing the “broken” game and adding a failsafe to the end of the main script so that if the teleport fails, they can try again. I’ll add my other game to it soon once I have the decals created for it.

I can imagine having to go through the hub every time you want to play one of the game can get tedious.

I didnt try the hub, but you could make it such that the disc for the last game you played is already in the machine when you enter, so you only have to wait through the animations if you want to go to a different game.

That is a really darn good idea! I’m probably going to add that soon if not today.

(Or maybe I could make it a devproduct to get a Wii Menu style screen instead… nah, that’s a bit greedy I think, it’d be cool though :P)
