Help. Fort feels empty

I tried adding some buttresses and arcs but it still feels very empty.

Things to note:

  • The outside won’t be seen at all.
  • Horizontality is a must, it’s for a fighting game.
  • Theme is sand/desert/fortress. Inspiration: Alhambra
  • When the map is summoned, the lighting will change (mexico orange filter sort of thing).
  • There will be sand particles being emitted, simulating a sandstorm.

Sorry if I come off as brute or ignorant.

add crates, bushes, decals, more geometry to the walls (holes, cracks), etc.

I’m not the best at level design, but I think some small foliage (like dead bushes or cactuses) could go a long way. I also think there should be a tower in the middle of the map to just fill in that big empty gap there.

You can add a temple in the middle for the players to intersect, add dead bushes or bushes, you can try to add more textures and pattern on walls and structures (flowers, ancient symbols, crosses,…), if it is abandoned you can add more tumbleweed and diminishing structures. There are actually quite a bit of things you can do to make it more alive just look at reference images. Keep on working. Goodluck!

like everyone else said, its missing small decorations and structures. Specifically, I would suggest statues. Also, as your game is a fighting game, you could add weapons on the ground (purely decorative) if its more cold-weapons. For example, a few arrows sticking out of the ground or a sword lying on the ground would look great.

Carpets also seem fitting

Wooden walls like in TF2.
Stone Brick walls to cover up characters.
Wooden Archer Towers outside of the map probably on each corner.

If the place used to be a battlefield, randomly located in the sand weaponry lying on sand.

Perhaps some Torches burning for Archers to burn their arrows.

Perhaps a destroyed wall in some corner.

Cannons with cannon balls next to them.

Shields attached to walls.

A random clan banner on one side of the war and a different one on the other.
