Help! I need help with my map!

Hey what’s up guys? First forum post here by the way! :confetti:
So recently or actually, for the past months i have been getting tons of stress from the amplitude of stress of trying to accomplish to what i’m going for.

I’m actually going for a Neighborhood map, or like just a little town. Apologies, i’m horrible at explicating things. Perhaps images will verbalize for themselves and you will be able to understand what i’m trying to accomplish.

If you have any feedback! I would astronomically appreciate it if you availed out! Telling me to abstract things is acceptable by the way!
Let me list the thing’s I am attempting to achieve.**
Good Lighting - i’m trying to get a morning sort of vibe, perhaps the skybox is a problem or there’s too much saturation?
More details - what i’m endeavoring to do is make the streets more covered, I have a feeling the map is profoundly clean and it’s not intriguing

  • Building Placement* - I’ve been struggling so much to ascertain where to place buildings, i’m genuinely uncreative? Sorry, can’t find a felicitous word to utilize. What i’ve been doing is duplicating buildings and putting them anywhere on the map, then getting fustrated because it looks uncomely…

Anyways, here is my map.

On the last image the concrete is deleted due to me trying to change things, but i’ve came here to find out what’s really the right thing to do… :eyes:

What I would do is add like dumpsters in some backs of the stores like the “iFONE” store and such. Also you should also add furniture into the apartments.

What type of help do you need ? (I will not be able to do a call because I’m French we will have to chat only)

I see what you mean. It might be hard when it comes to making large scaled maps such as towns and cities. I struggle with placement a lot. Something that may help you is actually looking up pictures of real life cities and towns to help you give a vivid image of what you want. I don’t come across creative either but, when I started taking art and doing still lives I figured I am good with copying things and I use this skill when I develop. This might be an assistance to you If it’s not I sincerely apologize and wish you the best of luck.

Your lighting is very orange. You would want to change the skybox as well as the ambient. I do not know your lighting settings so if you could provide them that would be awesome. Your pavements are too small in my opinion. The player would end up walking on the road. Add some road markings and a bit more vegetation. Expand the town a bit more.

This is a really good map actually! But it feels like theres some content missing from your project!

You could possibly add some;

  • Sidewalks next to the shops/road
  • Grass in between the sidewalk & road
  • Street lights
  • Parking lots in front/beside/behind the shops
  • Houses to give it the small-neighborhood/town feel
  • More vegetation (bushes, trees, grass, flowers, etc,.)
  • Of course interior to the buildings
  • Stay clear of free models, if they’re not your own they just tend to bring down the quality of the game for not matching up with your own building style!

Also, the lighting might be a little too bright, it could be best to turn that down a little along with the ambient to relieve some of that orangey tone.

The lighting is well done. Its nice that you made sure that many empty spots get filled in, but I think that the sidewalk is a bit too empty. You already added some lamposts, but I think that you should add more. I’d imagine myself having trouble seeing things if it were nighttime due to there being little light. So I suggest you add more. The road could also use some help as well. There should be some yellow lines placed at the middle to resemble a more realistic road. Heres an image if you don’t know what I mean:

Ah yes, thank you. I just noticed the houses do seem so empty. Thing is though I don’t know where to put the furniture.

Thank you for your feedback, I guess I can go on google and find examples.

Thank you, if you have any examples please send them! :eyes:

THANK YOU THANK YOU! This is the most beautiful feedback ever!

I might add them soon, the reason I didn’t add them though is because I was going for this…

But thank you, I might actually add the yellow lines soon to see how it looks on the map!

This map reminds me of Rules Of Survival, Maybe add some cars, Grass with trees?

Overall I think this is a great game, the main thing i would change is the roasts as it kind of blends with the rocks and doesn’t look like one in some images, maybe also adding road lines and street posts? power lines? and giving more detailing to door archways and windows, maybe curving the top of the windows and arching the door ways.

Other then that, great work.

All I could say when I saw this was: “Ho-ly OOF” Amazing! I started building a city project a while back, and this was the exact type of aesthetic I was going for. You have your roads nice and wide, the buildings are detailed in the perfect way, I love the lighting and the mix of materials! The only suggestions I can think to give is adding road lines and possibly providing me with a link so I can check out the map myself .

Amazing Job! Happy building!

Lol, it’s fine. Great job! On the build, maybe I can do something like it someday!
Cheers!
