I’m reaching the end of my development on my asymmetrical horror game very similar to a popular game “Dead By Daylight”. In which you restore power to power boxes to power the exit doors and escape (I know, very original). Why I think my game stands out: Other attempts at asymmetrical horror games on Roblox had at least one of those two fatal flaws in their game: Unbalanced or not giving the player any clue on what to do. I have tried my best to fix both of those issues in my game but again, I need more feedback.
That is a small problem compared to the fact that I have no idea how fun my game is. I need feedback on that too. I have made a fatal mistake of not creating ANY hype for my game therefore my game is not known at all. I don’t even know where to start. Ads? Hype? I am asking for your help on this too. If you do play my game or have any feedback on it I AM ALWAYS OPEN TO ANY FEEDBACK.
I have tried posting my game on various discord servers, reddits, even twitter and all of those methods failed, most likely because of my lack of marketing skills.
Here are some pictures of my game to see how it looks
The game looks good. I would only suggest adding some sort of way for people to play alone whether it be a bot mode or a tutorial. Also, yeah you could pay for ads or maybe try contacting a youtuber to get some hype.
I have thought of the idea of bots, but the game is too complex and not built for AI making this option very unlikely to be ever implemented. The dilemma I face now is that because of the lack of players and testing I don’t know if I should advertise, and the only way to get enough players at the same time is by advertising. Flee The Facility does not face this problem anymore because it has a constant stream of players. I have thought about contacting a YouTuber but I need more opinions. Only if I had enough players at once… Though thanks for the feedback!
An untested game is a broken game. You don’t want to be the one posting “I spent 100k then found out my game is bad, what went wrong?”
Starting a discord was good. Keep reaching out and inviting people. Soon it will be possible to run small scale tests.
The atmosphere does not feel welcoming to new players. When new players are not properly taken care of, this happens:
“I don’t know what to do. I’m bored. I’m leaving and hitting the dislike button”
Tutorial boards are great. These would benefit from a rewrite. The number of words overwhelms the reader. Prioritize essential information because players will be impatient. Tell them to memorize 100 things and they will remember none. Tell them to memorize 3 things and maybe they’ll remember the first one.
I second the other guy’s suggestion. If and when you spend on ads, players will arrive in a stream and not all at once. If the first player has nothing to do, they may leave before the second arrives, and thus the game never launches a single round. If the core gameplay cannot be single player, then make a minigame in the lobby.
I highly doubt this. If anything, you could make a system where the AI will wander into random rooms and hallways. If they see a player, they will follow that player until they can’t see them anymore, and they’ve checked where they last were. If you want a bit more detail on the system I am talking about, reference this video:
The game was tested several times. I have received criticism and was quick to fix everything. From the people who tested my game, completely fresh and experienced players, gave feedback that was mostly positive and the state of the game is basically finished.
I have made a huge mistake, not making a community while making my game. As a result I really lack testers, though I find some from time to time and they like the game.
I have no idea what to do with the atmosphere. I made a new “Testing grounds” place in the past 10 days. This acts as a small tutorial for new players to see what the game is about. It only works when there are not enough players in the lobby and whenever there are, the real game starts (the map starts to load). On this one I still have no idea what to do, but I think I’ve made progress.
I have reduced the text on the tutorial boards. Still too much to memorize everything, but the important stuff now should be easily memorized.
The stream problem should be fixed with the “Testing grounds” mode.
I really wish you could test the real game, maybe add me on discord to one day test the game for real?
