I wanted some opinions on a game icon I made. When I finished a game icon for a commission icon I taught the background was too bright so I made it darker. I wanted to know if darker backgrounds are better or lighter backgrounds basically, which one catches the player’s eyes better.
Dark:
Yeah the darker one is better, the bottom one is burning my eyes haha. The text is kind of bright on both, maybe consider toning it down a bit? The background looks too basic, nothing that eye catching going on. Using these suggestions though, I’m really looking forward to seeing the adjustments!!
First of all thanks for helping. I will try to make those adjustments and I will post them when I am done. I wanted to say two more things. The first one is about the background comment. I put that background because I really couldn’t find anything else to put as the background so if you have any suggestions please tell me (The game is a difficult chart obby and as far as I know it is not done yet). The second thing I wanted to say is that how much do you think this icon will be worth after I make those adjustments?
The second one is definitely eye catching. The first one is a bit too dim. What I’d go for is the second with a slight modifier (filter) to make it a tad bit lighter. The second one is literally burning my eyes though…
Personally, I feel like the second is more appealing but too much. I don’t think making the background darker goes together with the text. There needs to be a little bit more going on, maybe some shapes or something could really let it pop out. Although, keep in mind that the text should be the main focus so always try and keep that on top and you should be fine.
I really like the one you made and I was wondering what you did to make it look that good? As far as I know there is a gradient on the blue stripes that is the color of the text or an inner glow that makes the stripes have a gradient effect.
