Hello, I’m making a new roleplaying game and was building and the city for it looks a bit off, it doesn’t look natural at all, any tips on how to make it look better? The city is a beach city like Beach City from Steven Universe if that helps!
The buildings look a bit blocky. Maybe try adding curves to them. Enabling global shadows helps too.
You can add some terrain in the background which would help make it look more realistic and make the buildings pop a little more.
The roads are too narrow and have no design to them, it’s like someone just streaked hot asphalt across the ground. Widen them and add center dividing lines, curbs, maybe parallel parking spaces, etc.
Why’s there no road markings? And where are the parking spots? How are cars supposed to park to eat or shop in the restaurants and cafes and well shops?
The water park seems a little off, It’s in the middle of nowhere.
Make some empty buildings you can’t get into in the background, maybe, such as residential buildings and or houses.
(Maybe you could also make some of those buy-able), also where’s the entrance to the city? A simple tunnel or highway could be used. I’d also suggest making stop signs and such, and maybe making the roads a little more curvey and wider. It seems like the whole road is a one way, and upon entering the shops there’s no LEGAL way to exit.
Pretend you have building obstructions that you don’t want and build around it as it is. Usually makes it more natural.
I’m decent at building but not a good world designer, and the game was only started being in development not to long ago so not much thought went into it yet, i planned on fixing stuff up after to place was pretty much built, as well as the enterance is a tunnel, you can’t see it because i didn’t get it in frame and i do plan on making the roads wider, they’re just there as a general concept, as for house’s yeah, i’m gonna make another place you teleport to where the buyable house’s will be, the water park is there because i plan on extending the city over there as well so it won’t just be on the outskirts, what you see right now is not all there is gonna be and as for the road signs and road markings i didn’t really think about adding them, i don’t even know if kids are even gonna drive normally so may as well not put them there, the parking spaces though i will put them down eventually.
I didn’t think of adding those because players aren’t really gonna follow the rules of the road anyway.
I’m decent at building but not enough to introduce curves into them.
Its easy place a couple parts and rotate them into a circle and then use gapfill to fill them in.
Or you could place a cylinder and use negeates to sculpt it.
Didn’t think about the gap filling, thank you! I will try that for future buildings!
OMG I LOVE STEVEN UNIVERSE Add a border, then have a bunch of sand, water, and borders.
Yes, i’m planning on doing that and adding a very big bridge that goes to a tunnel that goes no where as the entrance to the city, as of now i’m focusing on building the city and improving and scripting and gui work!
Also a boardwalk with arcades and small restaurants
