So, I made gorgeous looking waves. But I’m having problems making it reflect light. The waves use a surface appearance, with a normal, roughtness, and metallic map. The metallic map and the roughness map are both completely black, (which I’m pretty sure gives it the most reflections). Yet my waves still look like plastic. Am I missing something?
I want the waves to reflect the skybox. (and if there is a way, also it’s surroundings)
What Material are your waves made of? I’m assuming you created them yourself and they aren’t the standard Terrain Water Material.
I believe Roblox Smooth Plastic is the most reflective if you set the Reflectance to 1, but whether you make it White or Black if you have the Time set to anywhere at night it’ll reflect the Black skybox.
Reflectance only reflects the skybox, so it’ll never reflect the Part’s surroundings. This is why you can’t just make a Part reflective and turn it into a mirror.
It’s difficult to reflect things off of things like that. The only things that really reflect skyboxes and anything is really roblox terrain water and or parts with the reflectance turned up.
Well the truth is that I could not tell you how to get your water to reflect you can use the trick of duplicating the scene and placing it as a skybox but I don’t know if it looks good
changing the roughness map with anything that isn’t completely black will just make water look even more like plastic from my experience; sadly there’s currently no way to use surfaceappearance’s normalmap and the part’s reflectance and have them both show
as you can see though, materials do have a normalmap of their own and can still use reflectance; I would suggest looking into MaterialService if you’re still trying to get that effect
