Help with starting building?

Pretty much I’ve always used roblox studio but my builds weren’t the best so could anybody give me any tips to improve at a steady pace?

I suggest having a clear idea of what you wish to build. I highly recommend the utility of mood boards.

You must download a modeling app such as Blender, as it offers much more modeling features than Studio. You can import your models in Studio.

Wait, what do you mean “mood boards” ?

A mood board is a type of collage consisting of images, text, and samples of objects in a composition. It can be based upon a set topic or can be any material chosen at random.

In the past, I used videos created by Roblox to help me get started building.

The Roblox University videos and Studio Tutorial videos are great places to get started. You can also find a few other YouTubers which demonstrate building tutorials in Roblox Studio.

Basically you have to plan everything out before starting on the build itself, you have to have a good idea of what you’re doing while building. A good way to do so is to make a trello or draw out a map of what your build is going to look like.

If you’re just looking to improve your building skills, don’t make a Trello and certainly don’t waste your time with a damn mood board. You practice.

Start small and simple and with something you enjoy (or know a lot about). For me personally (since it’s different for everyone), that was always structures and buildings. So for me “practice” was always making a simple house, then see what I can add to it, then revise it, then make another house, and so on. No mood boards required :stuck_out_tongue:

Whether you’re interested in space ships, castles, guns, whatever, you just start small and keep creating things. Remember, this is practice, it’s not going to look great off the start, and it doesn’t have to follow any kind of schedule so go at your own pace. What matters is that you push yourself a little further each time.

Then, after a while doing that practice, then you’re ready… for more practice. I’ve been developing on Roblox for over 12 years, and been modding for two years before that, and I have dozens of Studio places and Blender files and more just for practice because I’m always practicing my skills to learn

As several peoples here says, moodboards is the thing. You don’t even have to make the moodboard itself. You could just hit up google and google the item you want and try to find the item that matches your imagination the most. If you are really empty of ideas just search for some key words such as “monument” or “ship” or “2 story house”.

To summarise it all up. Find reference pictures. Find out what shapes it have. Can you make the shape in studio?
What is the colors? What is the material? Questions like these will help you alot in the process. If you still struggle let me know and I might make a step-to-step tutoral for you on how to make Marble Arch. (London) Making Marble Arch is really easy yet it looks cool.

Use your imagination, always look for perfection. You may build something but there will always be something you can do better in that build. Make sure to go for the best of detail you can get if you want a higher reputation, otherwise you’ve got a lot of proving to do.

Practice is absolutely important.

The first thing you can do is learn how to find everything in the studio.
Knowing your way around the studio is pretty important.

Second, practice. Practice is the most important thing you can do.

Next, be you. While building, build the way you want too.

Also, make sure to abide by Roblox’s TOS. Doing so will help prevent action being taken against your account.

Finally, watch guides on YouTube. Watching guides can help spark creativity, and help you reach your goals.

I wish you the best of luck. Please feel free to message me if you need anything.

When building, you don’t really need to put a lot of detail into it but you can if you won’t to. Also, if you feel like building takes forever try using some plugins like F3X and GapFill to make it quicker.
