Hidden Group Games

As a Roblox developer, it is currently impossible to have a testing place hidden but joinable as part of a group while also having a production place.

Roblox groups make all active games visible. This prevents groups from having a hidden testing or development place as part of the group’s games.

Compared to Roblox user-profile games, this is a lack of functionality. Roblox user-profile games can be hidden but active.

If Roblox is able to address this issue, it would make our group’s page look better by letting us hide our testing and development places from the public.

Even if the places are hidden, people can still join them. Would a better solution be to restrict access by rank?

We are not concerned about who can join. We kick anyone who shouldn’t be there (e.g. by rank) out automatically.

This is about keeping our group’s page clean and advertising only playable games on the group’s page.

Seems like a hack. We should definitely be cleaning up the group’s game list, but I don’t think it’s a good idea to leave developers to hack around who can join and who can’t – it also isn’t usable by non-programmers. As a developer, you should have full, native control over who enters your games.

Yet another thing to add onto the group revamp wish list

I agree. It is a hack. It should not be necessary.

Fixing that issue does not solve this issue, though. I need to hide my game, not have access controls.

I want my game to be “unlisted” but playable by most players I give the link to. This is a pretty standard feature on websites that let you create content.

I think you should make a new feature request with expanded access controls that addresses most types of access: friends of any player, group rank in any group, specific players, and maybe builders cub membership level.

I was implying that no access = hidden which seems to be what your use case is, but thinking on it, it could be useful to allow visibility to be toggled separate from access. If I have a group where users keep referencing a demo place not accessible by the entry rank, but that demo place isn’t visible on the group page, the users who don’t have access would be confused.

I do already have a feature request for access control though.

This feature would be very useful it would prevent people going to places they shouldn’t, say you are testing something and you don’t want people seeing the place is active on your group then they can’t join it unless you’re a friend who can see it on friends activity.

Then again you can always make a whitelist to prevent people from getting in.

Huge Support. Made a separate development group because of this.

This or somethig similar should be added. My group isn’t the biggest but i usually have 20 people on at a time playing the game. When i enable debug, at least 10 of them find the place and start playing it there, even though i casually reset stats there. At some times my debug place has more players than the actual game!!
