High Detail/Low Detail

I’m not 100% sure I’m in the right category for this question, if so, please, by all means let me know!

Not sure if anyone will have an exact answer to this question;
What do games like Bubble Gum Simulator do after clicking one of these options?

I assume “High Detail” would do nothing and just keep the game how it is.
But when “Low Detail” is pressed, I don’t really see much of a difference when either option is chosen.

If anyone notices a difference can you show me the difference?

If anyone knows/has ideas on what actions are taken after “Low Detail” is chosen, please elaborate :smiley:

As you can see, as more detail is added to the rendering, the more stressed the game becomes graphically. Activating low detail removes high-detail materials, high-resolution images(?) in favor of smooth plastic, lower resolution images.

Rendering distance may apply. Mesh triangle and polygon count may decrease. Part count reduction included. Textures may be simplified(or lowered in resolution).

Basically, it lowers quality in favor of performance.

Hmmm, is this system worth adding?
&do you think there’s any easy way to accomplish this? Or would it just be tedious work?

It comes down to what game you are making, you might want to add a system like this if your game has a lot of problems on lower end devices but I think most games are fine without it.
