High quality game but lacks fun/gameplay, will people play it anyway?

I’ve been working on a game as a solo dev for the past 3 months, RPS Roulette.

When it was time to release the game I encountered a few bugs and stuff so I started fixing and testing the game when I realized that the game was lacking fun and gameplay which made me feel like I wasted the last 3 months for nothing.

The game does have good quality and details + good icon and thumbnail and gamepass icons, it just feels like a genuine game that I can make some money off, I don’t have high hopes for it either I only expect 100 active players max but still I don’t want to release and waste my Robux on sponsering it for the game to just fail.

There are a few bugs but very unlikely to happen, and I don’t feel like fixing them anymore, I just don’t feel like wasting any more time on it.

Here are a few images from the game

For now the game is private, Considering that this is my first game the question remains: Should I release this game?

2 Players face off in a game of rock paper scissors, the winner takes the revolver on the table and shoots the other guy, the revolver has one bullet in it so it’s basically russian roulette.

the game was inspired by breaking point and the russian roulette roblox game

Sorry, i need to revive this post, i didn’t get any advice on what i should do yet :pensive:

Sorry you feel that way; it’s a pretty common feeling though at around the 3 month // end mark though when it comes to game design. I wouldn’t give up.

a) Consult a more skilled scripter to go over the code (a friend maybe?) just to fine-tune things and see if those bugs that sicken you can be fixed by somebody else.

b) Get some QA testers to give you feedback (I think the Hidden Developers discord has a nice system for this set up).

c) If you’re concerned about robux (fair enough) add 1) a donation button, a niche community that enjoys RR is bound to help out and 2) what do the game passes actually do? Is it worth a purchase?

d) Add some basic “wildcards” into the mix like a chance of the gun misfiring, a mystery box that each player can put their hand in to get an additional item (like another bullet, a hammer, a bulletproof vest etc.) I understand these things will probably make it more difficult / take longer but it’ll definitely make the gameplay more interesting if you’re so concerned.

In any case my friend, if you don’t want to risk it that’s fine. Publish the game anyways so that it’s a showcase of your skills. The last 3 months weren’t a waste either; as long as you wrote down the lessons learned and take them into the next project, you’ll do great. Best of luck.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this, I appretiate it <3

I’ve decided to fix the remaining bugs then release the game to see how it does, if it gets a few visits or something It’s enough to motivate me into making more progress and updates
