Honair's Haven Remastered Devlog #1

Honairs’s Haven remasterd devlog #1

CONTEXT
so bassicly i just finished my new game honair’s haven and i do think it turned out pretty good but it diffinelty could have been better and there where alot of problems with it
so i decided that i am going to bassicly remake it
what you had to do in the game was collect keys around the map and you would have to complete obstacle course to get to them
but the problem was that i put all the collectibles in one world kinda like mario odessey i thought that was a good idea but it wasnt
so i came up with a new idea where there would be like a hub world and there would be portals around the map leading to different levels that would each have 1 collectible in them
i asked the forum and some other friends and poeple if this was a good idea and they all said yes

anyways thats bassicly all the context now lets get onto the
stuff ive been working on

first i wanted to make a layout for the hubworld so i used my very good drawing skills to make this

then i remade some of the models and but them around the map to make this

thats bassicly all i got done for the map im going to be reusing the code from the old game i know this wasnt alot but i just got back from vacation so i couldnt work on the game alot
and i need alot of ideas for my game

also any concept art would be great i new layout would be good since i would kinda want some small obstacels to get to the portals and i would also like the hubworld to be in a vilage aswell
also it would also be great to get some concept art for a new portal models since i dont have any ideas for that i will also credit you if i use your conept art or idea

well thats all for this first devlog sorry its so short the next devlog will deffinetly be much longer
cya in the next devlog

Hey there. I’ve been making a 3D platformer collect-a-thon called PB&Jay for a while now and ran into some similar things. In the game I have a hub world that uses portals to take you to different areas. When it comes to something like a hub world, you need to make the portals VERY obvious to the player. (some people just don’t see it and leave the game.)

You also need to think about optimization if you are going to be having things like enemies, puzzles, and tons of worlds to explore. I’d say don’t worry too much about it, but do keep it in mind. Mobile is also hard to develop for in my experience.

The colors of the map are also very bright and don’t match well. The overall level design and map here feels more like a simulator than a game where you collect things. Speaking of which, you shouldn’t only have one collectable. You should use small less meaningful collectables, like coins or gems, as “bread crumbs” to guide the player to places.

As for finding a new portal design, I’d search up “low poly portal” into google. There are so many good looking ones, but here’s one from the devforum:

Also, I’d check out this video on collect-a-thons as it gives a ton of info and stuff:
