How’s this mining game idea?

Hey,

I’m aiming to create my first legit game (I never finish my projects), and I’ve come up with a fairly simple, strong idea.

Basically, you play as a “Company” with up to six friends, and you can customize the flag, name, colors, etc. There isn’t a set goal, and I hope people will create and find goals for themselves. Essentially a mix of barotrauma and factorio.

Players can mine minerals from their planet or from an asteroid belt, sell it raw until they have enough to refine it on their own, and sell it for a heavier price. This same idea continues until you have an automated factory, and your only job is to funnel in resources. You can sell these refined materials, or you can use them to build bigger and better machines. Eventually you’ll be able to build a rocket, escape your planet, and expand production elsewhere.

As for enemies, there will be random “events” which will summon new threats which I won’t get to yet. However, your biggest threats are the wildlife on your starting planet, and enemy pirates/pirate ships. Pirates will board your vessel and try to steal your riches, don’t let them do that. Oh and they’ll probably kill you. But don’t worry! You can equip yourself with a variety of deadly weapons, install turrets on your ship or base, or just repurpose those mining tools.

And, most importantly, the scope of my project. I understand that this seems like a hefty workload and quite frankly it is. My goal starting off it just to prototype and get the base gameplay loop down. Basic building, no interplanetary or space travel, no vehicles yet, just refineries, mining tools, a basic space suit, all that stuff. Eventually I can add the ability to make ships, vehicles, etc.

Anyways. I hope you like my idea, if you have any suggestions, questions, or concerns please tell me, I would really appreciate it. Thanks for reading.
