Story
Today, a dev came up to me in dev hub and asked if I wanted to invest in his game (ads). I agreed to join his game and found it compelling. I then friended him and messaged him, asking for his Discord. (check attached image to see the only 7 chats we exchanged) After a few minutes, my chat access was revoked and I received a warning saying, “You can’t send messages right now. If you break the rules again, you could lose account access.”
I’m sure that roblox is well aware that the main platform for roblox developer communication is discord. But, if they tag us every time we say “discord” how are we even supposed to connect? And the fact that you can get terminated for doing this is outright ridiculous. To think that all my hard work (many games with thousands of ccu) could be gone just like that is absurd.
I get that they are probably doing that for legal reasons and protecting children from preds and such, but threatening to terminate my account for an innocent reason is beyond excessive.
For me, what happened today shows me two flaws with roblox.
Restricted communication: censoring the word “Discord.”
Disproportionate punishment: the ease of being terminated.
As developers, have you guys had any experiences like these? Maybe termination or account banning for something small or a mistake? Or, how do you guys get around this tagging problem? I meet and speak with many developers daily and this always gets in my way.
Honestly, I dont think a lot of people have access to devforum. It took me like 6 months to get access lol but I was very inconsistent in reading posts here.
Ah, I see. Wdym by Group Chat? is that some kind of platform? Btw, I met this person in dev hub and he asked me if I could invest in his game. All my chats with developers on discord are strictly professional and to the point and rarely get into personal matters. For me, it is a very efficient communication tool but I do see your point on how it can also be used maliciously.
discord being censored is not new, has been this way for a while.
directing users off-platform
the best authorized way to do it would probably be to use social links on your profile. that includes twitter, youtube, twitch, facebook, and guilded.
if you ask me they just want you to keep using their services (roblox/guilded). apart from the obvious safety concern too.
Also i recommend moving this topic to Help and Feedback > Platform Usage Support before it gets taken down. You should be able to use the DevForum for conversations between creators. Even people that don’t have the trust level member rank can still message you via pms aslong you created the pm first
I see now, that makes a lot of sense. But then I have a follow up question, I’ve done this many times before. Why now are they telling me that my account access can be removed? It happens all the time in roblox chat.
Not sure. Perhaps it is due to their recent situation you might have heard about regarding child safety. They are currently in progress removing bad content and taking down a lot of stuff which could be used against them
I do know human moderators did moderate users previously for saying things like “dizzy”, “blue app”, etc before but perhaps their AI model didn’t pick it up. You might also have never been reported for this to happen
