How "Caging" the character works?

Hi, I’m trying to create my own character with Blender. I imported a custom character to Roblox studio, and I wanted to equip some clothes on the character. Unfortunatly, nothing happened. I’m seeing that the cloths are equipped, but i don’t see the cloths on the character. I did a few research, and i learn that it something to do with “caging” and “layered Clothing”.
I tried this tutorial → Create a character in Roblox compatible with clothing | Polygonal Mind's Blog
but I don’t really understand the part of ‘Caging’, i tried to look for a tuturial on youtube but can’t find one.

To cage a character, i have to import a character created by roblox and then shape it so that it look like my character ? I tried to do that with the roblox file, but i want to find an easier solution…

Thanks

you do have to make it look like your character, you just have to cover your character with the cage.

Is it possible to make it simple ? For exemple, duplicate each part of my character and then modify some properties to make the cage ?

How roblox can recognize that a part is a cage, is it the name of the mesh ?

that’s a good question. you could download the sample cage and see what properties it has and then try to mimic it for your own custom cage. This might take a lot of trial and error tho, so be prepared to mess around and find out.

If you want to use the provided cage, I recommend maybe using the shrinkwrap modifier. it should make things a bit easier. I thnk.
