Hello, well I make logo design to, the way I did it was I kept practicing until I got better, never think you’ll get better over night it could takes months/years,
You think that it will take forever but it wont,

I suggest to start with Inkscape to design some nice logos/design but there is also a site online free that is called Gravit design

Also logo design you never want to give someone basic logos keep in mind that they might like a logo you give them but you don’t like it then what you do is fix it up then give the fix one to him and it would be way better then before,

Tips

  • You want to make sure your logo/design is clean, not messy,

  • When you make logos/design always check logo/design before posting/giving you logos/design to someone,

Be sure to put watermarks on all your work until they pay you,

  • Watch logo design videos and that will help you get better also,

I would like to see some of your design in the future,

Thank you for you help, I will use your information and try make a logo thank you.

Your welcome ----> hoosmany is always here to help

It really depends on what you’re designing. You could be designing profile pictures, clothes, UI, or map layouts. The key is consistency and to keep looking for ways to improve.

Welcome to the DevForums! I joined the DevForums because of my graphics/GFX and pretty much stopped designing a while back now. Even though I stopped doing commissions, I love helping others with working on graphics since I have been designing for nearly 6 years.

Back in 2014, there weren’t many “Roblox” graphic tutorials on YouTube as there are today. So basically anytime I had, I practiced. I watched countless amounts of videos and read many threads from designing forums. As what hoosmany said, the best way to make your advancements in designing is by practicing. Even though your art will most likely be really simple in the beginning, practicing and getting the hours will help. Like what people say, practice makes perfect.

If you’re really new to designing and need programs to start with, I recommend paint.net. Many “Roblox” designers have made YouTube tutorials on how to design different things such as thumbnails, clothing, ads, logos, and many more. Even though the interface looks outdated, the amount of tools and plugins that are available in the program works wonderfully. Once you feel more comfortable with designing, I recommend purchasing Adobe Photoshop.

Since you are just starting off in designing, I recommend not to make people purchase your designs, but instead use their request as a way to learn/get better in designing. What I did to test out different styles was to ask a friend’s character just to practice with. Once you feel more confident with your skills, then you can ask for commissions but start with a low price, the as you get better, increase it

For me, it took me about a year to get the hang of designing. Trust me, all the times you have practiced will pay off in the future.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions via discord mason#7367

I would also love to see your improvement in designing

As somebody who does design in real life as a job,

I think the best way to get better is to begin trying to work for others. When you only do personal projects I think you can be limited within your own realm of creativity, if you will.

When others expect you to create something a certain way, you have to push yourself and your designs in order to accomplish their vision. It’s a strenuous but super rewarding process when you start to see things come together.

The industry in general uses the Adobe Suite, but if you are just beginning your journey into design I would recommend sites like Canva and pixlr for you to get a basic feel for how to create things. (They are both free, and easy to learn)

Hey there, newcomer!

First of all, thank you for joining Devforum. We glad you are here! Regarding your question “How can I become a good designer”. I have some tips I can give.

  1. To be a good designer, always follow the contrast ratio. Not following the ratio will make text/objects hard to see.

  2. Coloring is important in designing. Without colors, you won’t attract people to see your design.

  3. Paddings!!! This is the most important thing in designing. Without it, people will hate your works.

  4. Unify is also an important thing in designing. For example, you are designing UIs for a game which is sci-fi and horror. You won’t make a certain UI cartoony or genre that is not included in the game.

  5. Use all the space if you can, but not too much. Using too much will cause your design to be messy. Using too little space will make viewers think your design is too empty, too dull.

Of course, you can not design without a suitable tool. That’s why I also give some software recommendations to you.

  1. Affinity designer
This software for most of the designers and has been used by a lot of designers. This software surely will help you to make designs without any problem.
Affinity designer is paid but not subscription-based unlike Adobe’s softwares

  2. Adobe XD CC
This is another software for UI designers and is recommended to basic designers because this software has all the stuff most of the designers need. Although it doesn’t have a lot of features as Affinity Designer does, it’s enough for an ordinary designer.
Adobe XD CC is tier-based and there is 2 tier which is free and paid. The free tier is already enough for a basic designer. So why not try it out? XD CC can be installed on both Windows and Mac OS X.

Good luck, happy designing!

Yours sincerely,
Manami

Hey there, fellow artist here.

There’s a lot of different ways to get better at designing, and its pretty subjective in terms of which is the best. Personally I find that making personal projects is the best way to improve your work, at least at first. This usually involves using references and trying to recreate particular objects in them and using them for other purposes, or even recreating the reference entirely.

The thinking behind this is that you need to improve before taking on things like commissions so that you can be commercialism viable as an artist, and with each work you make, you’ll gain knowledge on design principles, techniques, etc.

This is as opposed to starting out by making graphics for people on Roblox, because personally (wholly subjective) I find that it acts as a restriction on what you can and should make in your designs, since people usually have a set criteria for what they need, and also the fact that once you hit a certain point, there’s not many ways to improve or change it. With passion projects, you can pretty much work on a piece until your heart’s content, with only your creativity to stop you.

Just for the sake of giving some examples, I embedded some pieces I tried to remake.

References I recreated as passion projects (oldest at the top, newest at the bottom)

Keep in mind I only used myself as an example since I have all this stuff ready on hand, so it’s just quicker for me

As you can see, the more you stretch yourself, the better you get.

Other references you can use

You can find this kind of thing on sites like artstation, deviantart or literally just by searching keywords on google images (e.g. game wallpaper)

Of course you should start with more simple stuff before you get into more complicated works that require more advanced knowledge.

Everything I’ve embedded is render based, but its honestly the same thing with logos in my opinion. Using references for a particular style you want to know how to produce is perfectly valid, and honestly, I encourage it (just make sure you’re not ripping off people’s art).

I hope this helps you!

thank you all of you for giving me this information, I am sure to be using it thank you
