How can I improve the aesthetic of this maze

Right now im working on an underground maze, and I wanted to know how I can make the maze feel more like something underground and natural.

Here is what I have right now:

NOTE: The walls covered in shadow are the same thing as the dirt wall. The ceiling wall is the same but a slightly darker, more gray shade.

Consider adding:

  • Moss / vines to the walls
  • Roots of plants extending down from the ceiling
  • Slight variation to the height of the ground / ceiling so it’s not completely flat

Essentially, adding more variety and depth to the walls / ground / ceiling would make it feel more natural, and introducing plant-related elements could help create more of an organic atmosphere.

That’s all I can think of at the moment but I’ll reply again if I have any more ideas :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you for responding. When you say add more variety and depth, do you mean make the walls not completely smooth, like make it dip and bulge in areas?

Yup, because that would reduce the symmetrical, man-made uniformity of the space to help make it feel like it was created by the natural processes of nature

Add more curves and things to merge the seams of the bricks with one another, in an attempt to make it look not so flat. Add rocks, vines, maybe even some other textures ontop of what you already have.

make it round (use rocks or something) and make it less straight

Thank you all for your suggestions. There is something I realize I should have mentioned, and that is the fact the maze is gonna be changing itself automatically, so I can do things like vines and rocks, but for the walls it will probably be a repeating pattern.

Mesh walls. Normally tunnels have supports as well if 3D modeling isn’t your thing. I just recommend focusing on the walls, and changing the shape of the walls. Adding supports to keep the ceiling from collapsing. You can add lights, normal spaces have lots and lots of lights everywhere, so much that we don’t pay much attention to lights anymore.

This maze is pretty basic, add some grass/vines and rocks/stones. Otherwise, it’s alright.

Thank you for this suggestion. I have considered the 3D option, but considering the complexity of making something I would be proud of, it wouldn’t be worth it unless people actually play. I am experimenting with terrain generated with Roblox as an option for a pattern. As for lights, I am trying to keep it dark as part of the design of the game. I like the support idea though, thank you.

Delete the preset lighting and watch a tutorial on making good lighting, the roblox preset one isn’t really great.

I also recommend adding some music, sounds which play from time to time, props, etc.

Just try to make it feel alive.

Hope this helps!

You could maybe make it less rectangular, and i mean make the walls have some nature terrain, someting like this:

Anyways as the others said, add some vines and rocks so it looks more natural

(you dont need to make it like mine tho, its just a example)

Thank you, I turned up brightness and changed the settings to make it easier to see while im working on it. The final version would be using fog to reduce the player’s vision while using a light to make the walls brighter. I like the suggestion to learn some lighting techniques though, thank you.
