I’d like to ask, how can i get going with creating a project, having the inspiration and staying with it as a solo developer?
I’ve always been able to work for people, and work games alongside a team but, i’ve always felt less passion in creating alone, which i feel is what is truly holding me back.
If you’ve got nobody willing to develop with you and don’t have passion working alone, you either give up, hire developers/get friends to join, or learn to work on it by yourself.
There’s no definitive way to “learn to work by yourself” because it requires you to be competent, if you aren’t competent you can’t. So first you need to learn to be competent.
I do not know what your definition of competent is but, as of developing, i am competent.
My question is based on how to keep motivation/discipline to work on a game alone, it’s from a mental stand-point.
I don’t know how to solve your problem but it sounds like a problem that only you can fix. You can try reminding yourself to not give up & look at the better but overall I don’t know.
I normally develop solo, and over the past few years, I’ve learned that taking breaks is crucial to avoid mental burnout which is a major impact that can lead you to becoming heavily demotivated. Treat the project as some sort of a hobby that you are extremely passionate about.
Setting deadlines has also been incredibly helpful in speeding up development process in games. What worked for me is tackling everything little by little until it’s all finished, then refining, cleaning up such as finding and fixing bugs, optimisation, improving build qualities etc.
I also use a program thats inbuilt with Windows 11 called “Microsoft To-Do”. This extremely helps with remembering what I should do just in case I dont forget and since it’s pinned to my taskbar it’s kind of just easy access to me rather than using some website where i’d probably forget the name of it in about a week or something.
Last tip I’d give is play other ROBLOX games similar to the genre you want to create, get inspiration, brainstorm how could you create something unique/better than this game? Use tools such as Microsoft Paint or even pen and paper to just dot down different ideas or concepts till one clicks in
That’s some really good advice and points you make here, you’ve given a solution to most things that have been making most of my solo projects be stuck in an unfinished state.
I genuinely had no idea that task feature existed, and so far it looks like it’d come in handy. I’ll set it up as soon as possible.
