How can I make my map look less boring / repetitive?

So, I was working on a bigger island than I thought, filling it with trees makes me lag and when I put in some it feels more “boring”. Any advice to improve the environment of my island?

Don’t mind the blocks , just imagine they are some really cool Buildings.

Here are some of my suggestions:

  • Add some animals
  • Make some plants bigger or smaller than other plants
  • Some smaller plants to make the environment more evenly spread out.
  • Stones, rocks, pebbles

Maybe a river, or some secrets like secret rooms can be good
